Resistance is Futile!

I can never resist a good joke…especially when it’s me making it! Inspector Panda is taking the day off while we continue the sordid tale of Hobbes’ kidnapping by the panda kindergarten.

Meanwhile, around the web, I am on a bit of a blog tour, in honor of the publication of Pandamorphosis, my wordless picture book about…um…pandas. This week I wrote about the journey to publication on Cordelia Calls it Quits, and then I headed over (virtually speaking, of course) to Cordelia’s Mom, Still to tell the tale of where all these pandas came from! I have a few more stops on the tour coming up in the next couple of weeks. If you would like to have the pandas come by for a visit, drop me a comment and we can set something up!

Meanwhile, here is the continuation of our story:

I love a good art forgery, don't you?

I love a good art forgery, don’t you?

As I mentioned on Sunday, this cartoon and the previous one were inspired by Pearls Before Swine’s creator, Stephan Pastis and his recent series in which he collaborated with Bill Watterson.  I see your “set my hair on fire,” and raise you, “I would rip my own liver out with my teeth.” Is that enough name dropping for one day?

OK, Mr. Watterson, I have your tiger. Come and get him.

      Aw shucks,
Well, I figured that if I could do a forgery of a Sargent painting, I could do one of Hobbes. Those panda girls are really something, aren’t they. Who knows WHAT they’ll get up to next.

Hobbes looks like he’s being kept quite comfortable by the Mei-hem twins… but poor Mama Mei! She managed to get Pinky out of that Highwaygate pinch but I don’t know about this one!

…But at least Pinky didn’t use her magical wand!

Love the way the Mei Hems are still in their Girl Scout uniforms as they particiapte in a kidnapping! You do good art forgery! In high school I used to forge parents’ signatures on excuse notes in the coat closet. But my best was Ivy Baker Priest, whose signature at the time was on US currency.

Art forgery is a lot of fun. Well, technically speaking it’s not forgery since I don’t try to sell it as actual masterpieces.
I’m not sure the panda scouts board of directors will approve of the Meihems taking part in kidnapping while wearing their uniforms. Oh well, I’m sure they’ll get over it.

Well, at least the cat didn’t ‘get it’ this time – still cracks me up…. And the girls sure are hospitable. Someone is training them correctly. Although cuppycakes would have been more appropriate with tea.

Anxiously waiting for your next installment. (I found an old cartoon strip of my brothers. The detail and work always amaze me. I can just imagine how much time you spend and I’m sure how much fun you have in developing your strips. Keep up the good work.)

Thanks! the girls were brought up to be polite to their hostages, unlike former pandy kindy classes! I love combining what I know about fine art with drawing the cartoons. It’s fun to see how they have progressed from the beginning.

Well, in the Mei-Hems’ defense, they had to find SOME use for the leftover Panda Scout cookies after Highwaygate

So, do you think there is a merit badge for “hostage taking” or “hostage hospitality?” They would totally get the second one. Pinky is a badd influence on the Meihems, Lun Lun might be thinking right about now.

Hmmm… it’s true, Pinky is the mastermind here. I hope that will be considered sufficient mitigation in the “court of mom”. We shall see, won’t we?

Well, nobody’s perfect. And they were very polite! They are sure to get the “hostage hospitality badge”, don’t you think?

Well, they are still junior members of the panda kindergarten. They can’t be expected to have perfect spelling yet, can they? Maybe they need a special tiger, tiger striped “hostage cuppycake” to commemorate the occasion. Just Saying.
