Recap #7: Inspector Panda Presents….
I don’t recognize the “artist” in the last two pictures, the ones after the Hoppers, so educate me! My father always had a print of Early Sunday Morning in his office. I suspect it reminded him of where he grew up… btw, there is a new cuppycake store opening in my neighborhood! There goes what is left of my waistline.
There are two drawings (after the gas pump one) that are adaptations of some Hopper drawings that I found in the catalog of the Hopper Drawing show that was at the Whitney last year. (we missed it, having to decide whether we would go to see the Sargent watercolor show in Boston or the Hopper show in NYC.) the last drawing was something I made up.
Congratulations on a new cuppycake store in your neighborhood. I should be so lucky! Keep your eye out for the pandy kindy. They like to check out all the cuppycake stores.
I think that Sargent show was at the Brooklyn before Boston. I was disappointed; don’t think the medium was his best one.

Yes, it was in Brooklyn before it went to Boston. I love his oil paintings much more, but as an artist, I was fascinated by his process, as I think many of the watercolors were painted on site, as it were, and served as studiea for later oil paintings in his studio. It was still a once in a life time opportunity to see both the Boston MFA and the Brooklyn Museums collections shown together. I do wish I could have seen the Hopper drawing show too, as I actually like his drawings more than I do his paintings.
