About Panda in Chief

Anne Belov paints, writes, makes prints, and is the founder of The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire. You can find her paintings at the Rob Schouten Gallery and Fountainhead Gallery, her cartoons on The Panda Chronicles, and her new book here. She also writes regularly for The Whidbey Life Magazine, a free journal of art and culture on Whidbey Island. Her main regret in life is that there is no MacArthur Grant for Panda Satire.

Frank and Mikey’s Excellent Adventure: The Epilogue

I will not confirm or deny whether any of the dialog is inspired by actual family interactions or conversations.

Frank and Mikey bid a fond farewell to their Mom and siblings Scooter and Josie. I’m sure they had a wonderful time!

Back to civilization!

On this date in July of 1969, I was at music camp in Morgantown West Virginia. Over 100 campers gathered around the television in the lobby to watch this momentous event:

One step for a small bear….

Or maybe something sort of like it.

Enjoy your day; get vaccinated, wear a mask, and stay safe! I can’t afford to lose any more fans of panda satire!

It is the Birthday Season of The Wu Self!

One of the first long stories I wrote, was the one where Mr. Wu runs off to join the circus with the panda kindergarten. I think it was his first meeting with Bee, the Bear. Since it is Mr. Wu’s birthday season, I thought it would be fun to have an encore presentation of the whole story.

You can find this story, as well as other stories of the Wu Self in my 4th ‘toon collection, The Panda Chronicles Book 4: The Book of Wu. (available from that big online retailer who shall not be named)

Here we go with Part one of our story, Bears Under the Big Top!

It’s Birthday Month for The Meihems and Mr. Wu!

I thought we’d start out with one of my favorite stories of the Meihems (which, of course, include Miss Pinky Panda!) Inspired by the real life drama that took place concerning a certain bridge between NJ and NY, and involves a certain governor…

WE call it: HIGHWAY GATE!!!

George Washington Bridge lane closure satire.
Princess Pinky Bao Bao…what have you done now?
zoo atlanta, bao bao, national zoo
Time to call in …Inspector panda!

Will the twins get a merit badge for their road trip? will Lun Lun fess up to where the girls are? will Inspector Panda get a clue, or at least more twitter followers. Stay tuned!
Bao Bao, washington DC cover-up
Oh, Pinky…what have you done?
Howdy, Mr Kitty, kindly tell us where a tired old cowpoke can get a boo beer and a cuppycake.

Oh that Pinky! (Plus you will notice how she managed to hijack this ‘toon series celebrating Meihem Month!)

Toon in this week to see if I actually get any new ‘toons done for this week!

Beasts Large and Small are Flocking to ZooNooz!

Yet more animals in the NooZ! This time, a gang of swearing parrots were brought to the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park, only to have their cozy little group broken up! You can read all about it here!

I’m sure this is completely unfair to the parrots!

Laughing at them only encourages them!

I know we’re all feeling a bit swear-y still! Who can blame them?

Elephants are on the Moooove!

My alert friends and readers are always making sure I’ve heard of all the stories of animals misbehaving around the world. These stories almost never disappoint, and this one is no exception!

A herd of about 15 asian elephants have been running amok in towns and farmlands in south Yunnan province, where most of the endangered elephants live. They don’t know why these elephants have gone on walk-about, and they are trying to find a suitable place for them to settle.

Of course, the intrepid roving reporter at ZooNooZ is on the scene!

What could possibly go wrong?

We are in the midst of a heat wave here in the upper left coast! Temperatures in Seattle and Portlandia hit over 100, but here on a small island off in the Puget Sound, we have managed to stay below 100 (at 99) I hear there is not a fan to be found, or an air conditioner, so I am getting up close and personal with every ice pack in the freezer! Temperatures are predicted to drop over night, which will be a welcome relief!

Till then,

Keep Cool
