Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner

With news of a state dinner for the folks from Canada at the White House, following quickly on the heels of the photograph of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with two adorable panda cubs on his lap, It’s anyone’s guess who’s coming for dinner!

Are Pinky and Bubba invited as well? I mean, now that the PM and the Toronto Twinkies are such good buds, I can’t believe he’d leave them at home! and will Mei Xiang and Tian Tian be invited as well? Seems like the PM might be the sort who has permissive attitudes towards pandas and would let them get up to any number of hijinks, and where Pinky is concerned, well, you just can’t be too careful!

The long, dark tea time of the soul….

And this would not be the first time that pandas attended state dinners at the White House…

This week, Fabulous Furry Friday looks at…(you know we had to do this, didn’t you?) The 2016 Election Season. Well, actually, it’s more like the 2012 election season that we are looking back on, since a certain candidate, who we will refer to as He Who Must Not Be Named, (or HWMNBN) was throwing verbal rocks at the previous failed Republican presidential candidate, calling him a loser and disgrace.

Now, I am no fan of the former Republican candidate, but he deserves respect, particularly from someone who wants to hold the office under consideration. (So does our current President, if you want my opinion.) Can’t we play nice, please? Pretty panda please?

Is it really all black and white?

Cats….you just can’t trust em. Remember Mittens?

Keep cool, cat, and don’t go blaming women for stuff. That is SO not the way to get votes…

And if debating with Mittens wasn’t bad enough, now Bob is facing Pinky in the primary fight of his life. The soul of the Panda Party is at stake!

What could Pinky be up to…?

Don’t mess with Pinky.

…and I real have to talk with my media team, because I don’t have a video yet, and Pinky’s has been shown all over the world!

I just listened to an interview with the guy who played the grizzly in the movie The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and ahem…THE BEAR!!!!! Let me say right here that no matter how many well deserved Academy Awards this movie wins this weekend, I have no intention whatsoever of seeing this movie. This guy studied a lot of bear attacks, so he could…um…be the bear.

It was really interesting to hear about all of the preparation and mechanics/ technological magic that went in to making the scenes with the bear attack so realistic. If you’re interested, you might be able to catch the podcast on CBC’s Day Six.

However, I would never dream of boycotting movies containing …pandas. Um…KUNG FU PANDA 3!!! (which I have plans to see tonight!)

So, in honor of both the bear (yay!!!!!) from The Revenant and the Kung Fu Pandas, here are some being the bear related cartoons for your Fabulous Furry Friday Fun!

The Panda Season of Love Begins

Oh yes, the Panda Season of Love has begun once again and panda fans around the world anxiously await the joyous announcements of impending panda pregnancies! This year Australia (being on the opposite side of the globe) is anxiously awaiting a possible perfect puffy panda popkin, but as with all things panda procreation, we don’t often know that something will happen until it actually happens!

Is it any wonder that pandas visit therapists more often than any other animal? (Okay, I just made that last bit up, for those of you who are paying attention!)

But now, let’s get on with the show of encore presentations for Fabulous Furry Friday on The Panda Season of Love!

I hope people haven’t had enough of silly love songs!

A panda by any other name, would smell…well, they would just smell…

The Scottish pandas have had a few disappointments…

I am only making some of this up.

And of course, as noted Pandologist Henry Nicholls has pointed out, wild pandas are a whole different ball game!

Thanks guys! No, really.

A Silver is the Same as “First Loser”

Fabulous Furry Friday takes a look back at last year’s Giant Panda Global Awards (or whatever the heck it’s called now. ) As you may or may not be aware, Pinky did not win either of her categories (Favorite Panda Outside of China or Panda Personality of the Year) Okay, there are a lot of really cool pandas who don’t live in China, but for Pinky NOT to get Panda Personality of the Year, that’s just wrong!!!! As for her Silver Medal in the FPOoC award, as Pinky says, getting first runner up is just like getting “First Loser”.

As we have not had time to work on cartoons celebrating this year’s awards, let’s look at the ~~atrocities~~ festivities from last year!

Don’t tell me you’re surprised.

And now that Bubba has won Cubby of the Year….who knows what Pinky will do. There were rumors of Pinky sightings in New Hampshire last week, but just HOW is she getting away from the zoo with no one being the wiser? Tune in next week to find out!

And coming up on Sunday is a new Valentine’s Day cartoon, as we kick off the Panda Season of Love! And since the Australian pandas have their seasons reversed, we are not awaiting word as to whether the lovely Ms Fu Ni (Chinese for “Party Girl”) at the Adelaide Zoo is really pregnant or just prevaricating for pastries.

We also have several new panda centric cuppycake recipe over at They Draw and Cook; one for Valentines Day and on for Chinese New Year!

Could this be why Pinky did not rock the Iowa Caucus

For some strange reason, I have not been able to get any information about how Princess Pinky did at the Iowa Caucus. I was not able to be there myself, as none of my ~~five~~ three supporters live in Iowa, so I decided to save the bus fare.

But perhaps the lack of results from the Iowa Caucus for Princess Pinky had something to do with this…

…of course Boo-mints are pretty good too.

Will the twins get a merit badge for their road trip? will Lun Lun fess up to where the girls are? will Inspector Panda get a clue, or at least more twitter followers. Stay tuned!

Howdy, Mr Kitty, kindly tell us where a tired old cowpoke can get a boo beer and a cuppycake.

Looks like Pinky and the Meihems have made up and joined forces with the pandy kindy!

In honor of the recent news that there will be new hearings for the New Jersey Bridgegate Scandal scheduled for sometime in February, I thought, what more appropriate subject could there be for this week’s Fabulous Furry Friday, than the National Zoo Highway Gate Scandals of 2014… Remember?

Snow Day Revisited

I know those of you in the DC area are dreading it, but early this week, there were predictions of a major snowfall in and around Washington DC. I am in total agreement with those of you who hate driving in it, dealing with other drivers driving in it, and shoveling yourself out of your houses and driveways.

But pandas love it!

And it was ever thus….

Meihem, not Mayhem.

Well, they did hang their coats up.

And for the weather in the Pacific Northwest….
40 degrees and raining….at least we don’t have to shovel it.

And Speaking of Baby Pandas…

What? Weren’t we speaking of baby pandas…? Well, with all these incredibly cute pictures of the adorable baby Bubba (aka Bei Bei) at the national Zoo this week, it is most difficult NOT to have baby pandas on the brain.

THIS is your brain on pandas. Any questions?

If there was a cute-o-meter installed at the exit to the panda house at The National Zoo in Washington DC, it would have broken under the strain of so much cuteness.

But Bubba is not the only American Panda to have ever trod the trail towards the bright lights of stardom. This week, Fabulous Furry Friday brings you highlights of some of our other favorite panda cubs!

For some reason, panda cubs are fascinated by fallen leaves…
