Fabulous Furry Friday

It’s hard to believe that 2015 is almost halfway over. Where does the time go? Any day now, the panda progeny season may begin. We are hopeful that there might be two new panda cubbies in the US, although we are hoping for a trifecta, which has not happened yet. Ms Lun Lun of Atlanta has not revealed whether she is interested in completing the triple crown of panda-dom, but we are ever hopeful!

We had no new panda cubs in the US last year, but in 2013, we celebrated the birth of the Meihems and…ahem…Princess Pinky, America’s sweetheart (“and icon! don’t forget I am a icon!!!!!”).

I think this would be an excellent opportunity for Fabulous Furry Friday to look back on the birth of our about to be two year-old reigning panda princesses, don’t you?

A look-back at the birth of the meihem twinkies would not be complete without Mr. Wu’s commentary.

It has been Pinky Pinky Pinky all the time around here lately. I do like to give the other pandas a chance to shine, but Pinky is so persuasive! What is a panda satirist supposed to do?

But a news story making the rounds of the panda faithful caught my attention this week, involving not Pinky but her mother! It turns out, that Mei Xiang had a very successful film career, long before Pinky or even Tai Shan was a gleam in their father’s eye. Yes, according to some research done by Pandas International, Mei Xiang (otherwise known as Pinky’s Mommee) was the sneezing baby panda, with over 200,000,000 views on and off youtube.

There will be a response to this news, in the pages of the Panda Chronicles, but not just yet. In the meantime, enjoy these cartoons from the archives for Fabulous Furry Friday!

A Walk in the Woods

I just saw notice today of something that makes me very happy! Bill Bryson’s book, A Walk in the Woods has been made into a movie which will be released this September! For those of you who have not yet read Bryson’s hilarious account of walking the Appalachian trail, I suggest you get your furry behinds to your nearest library or bookstore and acquire a copy. Like all of Bryson’s books, AWITW contains humor, interesting facts and history, as well as a few things that can kill you.

With all this talk about Pinky running for President, I thought a look back at Bob T. Panda’s run for the White House back in 2012 was called for, don’t you? Who could forget those dramatic days….First Girlfriend candidate Babette de Panda, Bob’s vile opponent, Mittens the Cat? It was a non stop political pandarama!

Babette has ..um…toned her wardrobe down in honor of this important occasion.

In the words of Winnie ther Pooh, “I think it’s time for a little something.”

Huzzah!

Does being endangered have NO privileges?

Cats….you just can’t trust em.

Keep cool, cat, and don’t go blaming women for stuff. That is SO not the way to get votes…

Wasn’t that trip down memory lane fun? I can’t hardly wait to see what Pinky has up her paws to help her win this election. And we know Pinky can’t help but win, what with being an icon and all …. and the Winner of the Smithsonian icon Smackdown is…

Some new designs will be coming out in the next couple of months. In the works are designs for Bee, the Bear, the Meihems, Inspector Panda, the Wu Self, Babette de Panda, and who knows what other panda characters will be commemorated this way? Fabulous Furry Friday Returns

What would we do without Fridays? That gateway to the weekend and relaxation…or maybe you work weekends or have saved up all the chores you don’t have time for during the week, so really, wouldn’t it be better if you could just sneak back to the office so you could watch panda videos of Fezbook, when you think no one is looking?

Not of course that I am suggesting that you do that. I’m just saying….

The panda kindergarten is so very helpful.

Oh heck…I don’t know! lets just do something random….maybe Wu related, since Princess Pinky has many of the new featured spots in the coming weeks…

Who can forget Mr Wu’s first adventure with the Panda Kindergarten?

And what about when he met Bee, the Bear, when he ran away to Join the circus?

And then there was his reaction when he learned about the birth of the Meihems!

(Thanks to one of my FB friends…was it you Debbi Z? who quoted Mr Wu’s line ” Dis. Is. A. Travesty!!!!! last week over on FB….if it wasn’t you, maybe someone will correct me. :o))

Fabulous Furry Friday wants to enlighten all those enquiring minds…

The Panda Season of Love is in full swing, but soon we will all be waiting to hear the pitter patter of little paws. Will they or won’t they? The thing with pandas, is, that you never know for sure until a cub drops out onto the floor, and sometimes even then you don’t know whether it will be one or two cubs.

Pretty cool, huh?

Meanwhile, we have no idea if Lun Lun is interested in staging a repeat performance, or if Mei Xiang, mom to Princess Pinky will want to do it all again.

And then there was that whole scandal about pandas pretending to be pregnant in order to get “special treatment”…

It was dark…there were men in masks….AND NOW IT’S HAPPENED AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

And then there is that whole business of what sort of cub you are going to end up with. If Mei Xiang had know what her little princess would be like, would she have continued the project?

I can hardly wait to see what Mei Xiang thinks of her daughter’s latest aspirations….

I’ve added two new designs in the #WeREndangered series, one starring Mehitabel (she does have a lot of fans, you know!) and one for Princess Pinky. Remember, without pandas, there can be no panda satire!

Fabulous Furry Earth Day

It has come to my attention, that this week we celebrate Earth Day, a day to thank our lovely planet for being there, and could we please not mess it up any more than we already have, and maybe fix a thing or two while we are at it.

I remember the first Earth Day, because I was in high school at the time (please, do NOT do the math) and what an amazing concept it seemed at the time. Pandas, of course have been all over this from even before Earth Day was a “thing”, trying to find ways to reduce our carbonated footprints.

And I just wanted to send another big pandy thanks to all of my amazing supporters who have ordered stuff from my Pandyland Store, which is a way you can support Panda Satire, and get some cool stuff for around your house as well! Because, you know…

Fabulous Furry Friday: #WeREndangered!

Sunday’s cartoon was a lot of fun for me, and not just because of my coffee slinging history. I like it when Mehitabel has a chance to wig out and give the pandas a little what for.

Several people wrote in their comments that they would love to have a #WeREndangered coffee mug too, so I got right on it. I have a very neglected Cafe Press store, where you can buy things with various members of the Panda Chronicles on them. I know it is really time for some updated inventory, but only so many hours of the day and all that, you know.

I’ve long been wanting to design something with the Pandy Kindy in their Fez Mobile (or as I like to call it, their mobile fez-book app) and it occurred to me that this was the perfect place!

What could be more endangered than joyriding pandas NOT wearing seat belts?

Because I love the idea that people can find my pandas here and read them for free, I try not to lean too heavily on the potential money making aspects of panda satire, because, that would be …um…annoying. However, making a little filthy lucre from selling books and panda satire products, does make it possible for me to keep doing this. At least until I get a MacArthur Genius Grant for Panda Satire, at which time I will just leave piles of my books on street corners for anyone who wants them…

And lest we forget that there STILL is no MacArthur Grant for Panda Satire….

So head over to the Cafe Press Pandyland store and order a couple of #WeREndangered coffee mugs! Heck! order a bunch for all your friends, and remember, without pandas, there can be no panda satire!

And to support pandas further, for every #WeREndangered mug that is ordered during the rest of April, we will make a liddle donation to Pandas International, because they are actually doing stuff to support pandas (and not just making fun of them like some people!)
