Episode 6: What fresh horror awaits?

Oh…you thought I was talking about the current news when I said what fresh horror awaits?

Ha ha! I have no idea how you made that mistake. I was talking about what’s going on in the cozy cottage of the three pandas and what the diabolical KittySue is up to in the aforementioned cozy cottage.

We’re on the edge of our seats! No more accounts of any stupid dreams you are having about cake! On with the show!

Episode 5: KittySue and the 3 Pandas

Oh my! What is going to happen next in the home of the pandas ? Stay tuned and find out…

But first, I had the weirdest dream last night. I’m not really sure what brought it on, but if anyone wants to try their hand at dream interpretation, have at it! So here’s what I can remember: I was at some big event, involving some sort of community, holiday dinner, but there weren’t many people there. I went to the dessert and coffee line to get some cake (!) but the guy behind the counter kept ignoring me. They started putting away all the cakes, but I still hadn’t gotten mine.

I said, “What about MY cake?” and he finally grudgingly cut a very large piece of cake, and tried to charge me, but I was pretty sure I had already paid. He did give me the cake, and then I turned to leave, trying to remember where my car was. Someone offered to show me a short cut but after we went through a tunnel, we were in a totally different town and my car was nowhere to be seen. I went back through the tunnel, but the cafe was gone and I was even more lost.

I then had to go through tiny doorways, crazy, precarious looking stairways, and then some sort of attic-y looking area with cats and who knows what else. I think this is where I woke up. I never found my car, and I think I lost the cake.

Go figure!

Geez. It never fails. Just when the movie gets to the good part, they go to commercial or some such nonsense like the commentary play by play!!! Who knew they even had this crap in CARTOONS!!!!!!!!! I mean really!

Oh my and golly gee whiz! What are those 3 pandas going to get up to in today’s episode? If you are just tuning in and missed Episode1on Sunday, you better read it here first, so you are right up to date with the rest of us. Okay? Are you caught up with the rest of the class? How about your math homework? And um…about that essay for civics and social studies? Did you do that?

Oh what the heck! Let’s forget about all that and go straight to the cartoon!

I want to give another big shout out to all the attendees of this year’s PandAtlanta Convention! It was so great to see previous acquaintances and friends in the fur, as well as meet some people that I only know here in cyberspace. I must say, that panda lovers definitely put the social in social media! As soon as I get some pictures downloaded to my computer, I’ll share some of them here! But for now, here’s a picture of a new panda friend’s complete pandification of her office!

We are still popping champagne corks and eating cuppycakes to celebrate my newly agented status, so I thought I would share more of my literature of the panda ‘toons for this weeks fabulous Furry Friday! Huzzah!

Bob gets an Agent

Yes indeed, it’s true! The official announcement came out today, and I am now represented by Gordon Warnock of Fuse Literary Agency. So it only seems fair that Bob gets an agent too. Several people have suggested that Pinky will try to use this to her advantage, and that I might want to drop out of the presidential race and take a cabinet position. We shall see, we shall see.

So what does this mean for panda satire? It means that my graphic novel, The Pandyland Mysteries: The Case of the Picturesque Panda will get a professional eye and guidance. Actually it has been getting a lot of that for the last six months as Gordon acted as my mentor through the SCBWI program that I have mentioned before. It means that I won’t rush into publishing it before it is ready. I have lots of work to do before we start submitting it to publishers, but I am very excited about this book. Yeah, we’re going to have to wait for it, but I think it will be worth it.

Meanwhile, Bob is ready to give Mehitabel the news, and Pinky…well…she’s just being Pinky, isn’t she?

Literary Pandas

This week, Fabulous Furry Friday salutes Literary Pandas and Literature of the Panda! Huzzah!

And now, the pandas are out of the bag!

This week, after the conclusion of a six month mentorship program through the Nevada chapter of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, I have been taken on as a client by my brilliant and kind mentor, Gordon Warnock. I’m already on the Fuse Literary website listed as a client!!!! I hope they have hidden all the cuppycakes, because, well, you know…pandas!

I can’t say enough good things about the Nevada mentorship program. If you are a member of SCBWI, I recommend you look in to it, (the next cycle does not start until 2017, so you have some time to get a project in working order). I met many wonderful writers, who I hope will be friends for life. And to all of you here who have been following me since the early days of panda satire, I can only say thank you a thousand times. Maybe ten thousand times. You keep me going with your laughter and comments. Stay tuned. Pandas are going places and I hope you’ll come with us.

Book 6 Cover Reveal!

It has been a longer time than usual between new editions of The Panda Chronicles collections, since Book 5: Pandapocalypse Now!!! came out about this time last year. I published the first book, Your Brain on Pandas, in the fall of 2012, and had enough cartoons in reserve to put out a book about every six months. Eventually I used up my reserve cartoons, and now I write/draw enough new ‘toons so that I can put out one book a year, in addition to other projects I am working on. More about that later!

But now, the moment that you have all been waiting for, (unless of course you supported one of my earlier Kickstarter campaigns and have received an update!) The title and cover reveal of the latest book, without further folderol:

And obviously, with the way pandas drive and that they stand up in an open car with no seat belts, it’s no wonder that they are endangered!

Fans of Pinky will be delighted to know that she has managed to ~~hog~~ commandeer around 75% of the stories in this book. Her rise to fame and presidential campaign thus far are included in this book, so get ready for Pinky, Pinky, Pinky.

Thank you for being the bears and coming along on this panda palooza! I wouldn’t be here without you all! The book will be available sometime in October. I am now awaiting my proof so that I can be responsible and make sure all the pages are turned in the right direction! Huzzah! Meanwhile, do peruse the other books in the collection, if you don’t already have the full set, which you can do on the Panda Chronicles: The Books page of this website. Huzzah!

And don’t forget, lots of stuff with pandas on it is available at the Pandyland store on Cafe Press, including lots of Pinky for President goodies! I hope to get some Hey, Why not vote for Bob? things up later this month. Pinky can’t have all the attention, can she?

Update: Once again, the MacArthur Foundation Genius Grants committee overlooked the field of Panda Satire. Sigh… Maybe next year.

And lest we forget that there STILL is no MacArthur Grant for Panda Satire….

Literature of the Panda: From Fabulous Furry Friday

Pandas have long had a presence in literature. The prestigious BamBooker Prize in panda literature is one of the coveted awards by the panda literary establishment. (I bet you didn’t know there was a panda literary establishment, did you?)

While panda literature has often been overlooked by the world at large (read: overbearing cats), it is, in fact, one of the most loved genres in many parts of the globe. From autobiographical works, to novels, and poetry, pandas are on the forefront of creative writing. Or was that “creative accounting”? Well, no matter, today, Fabulous Furry Friday celebrates,
