He’s leaving home…

We knew it was coming: the trauma of sweet Yun Zi going off to China, after 4 years living with mom, dad, and his self absorbed little brother.  Part of the deal we make with China is that all cubs born here get re-patriated to China, after they reach 2-4 years of age.  We don’t welcome it, but there is a good reason for it.  Because of the small captive population of pandas, It’s important that we don’t have  pairings between relatives that are too close.

We recently got word that he’ll be leaving on January 11th, just a few days away. Maybe he’ll leave his little brother his baseball cap.

Yun Zi leaves for China

There’s no place like home…

Just because it’s the way things are, doesn’t mean we can’t make fun of it.

Hey! Fabulous Furry Friday is back! Panda on…

31 days of pandas was fun and a big success, IMHO, (don’t cha just love how young and hip I sound when I use those twitter/IM all cap-letters thingies?  yeah, me neither.) It was really fun to dive deep into some story lines, and not keep people waiting for a week or more

to
see
what
was
going
to
happen.

But, I can’t keep that up all year, and get anything else done, like getting the Book of Wu ready to go to print. And other stuff, which will be revealed for the first time in my upcoming newsletter…um…hopefully next week. It’s all good, it’s all fun, and it’s all pandas! Huzzah!

Before I share this weeks encore presentations with you, I want to take a minute to say a fond farewell, to someone who was a regular follower and commenter here at The Panda Chronicles, and also on other panda forums around the web.  She went by the name Grammmie Cooper, and yes, that was with 3 ‘m’s’. I did not know her particulars, other than it was clear from her notes to me, that she was quite elderly, in poor health off and on, and her main joy in life was watching the pandas. Real pandas, I mean, on the various panda cams around the world. She was an early, enthusiastic supporter of my cartoons, and commented frequently.  She was not afraid to tell me that she thought I was stepping out of line when I would let young Mr Wu go off carousing with the panda kindergarten, and she was just as willing to express her delight with other drawings.   She got great joy and comfort from watching pandas. If there is any kind of afterlife, I’d like to think that pandas are there, too, bringing comfort and joy to the inhabitants, teaching people the art of somersaulting down a grassy slope, and then sitting around eating cuppycakes.

Panda on, Grammmie.

And now, let there be pandas!

Day 27: It’s a WUnderful Life, episode five

Oh poor Mr Wu…it is finally beginning  to dawn on him, just HOW awful a world with no new panda cubs could be. And isn’t that a great segue into a word from one of our sponsors?

As we reach the end of the year, many organizations are filling the airways and our mailboxes with appeals for end of the year tax deductible donations.  Please indulge me in making a plug for one of my favorites, Pandas International. Despite the fact that I spend most of my time here making fun of pandas and putting them in situations where you would not find a real panda, Pandas International has long been a follower and supporter of my work. Go Figure! So as you make your decisions on charitable contributions in the waning days of 2013, consider lending a paw to Pandas International.  After all, without pandas, there could be no panda satire.

And now, on with the show and the next thrilling episode of, It’s a WUnderful Life!

it's a wonderful life parody

You won’t like this, Mr Wu!

I hope you will continue to stay tuned for the next four episodes of It’s a WUnderful life! We have much pandaful stuff in store for you next year, which we hope you will stay tuned for.  2014 is going to be the year of the panda!

It’s Fabulous Furry Friday!

Now, there was something that I was going to use one of my cartoons to illustrate, but darn if I can remember!

Maybe it was related to writing my Pandafesto, Letting Loose the Bears: The Panda Chronicles guide to Embracing your Inner Panda.  Oh yeah. I think that was it!

Just how hard would it be...

Just how hard would it be…

...to embrace your inner panda?

Fabulous Furry Friday Celebrates Daylight Losing Time!

One the one paw, I love it when we go back to daylight losing time, because it means I get to sleep an extra hour Sunday morning before I go off to my yoga for pandas class. But, on the other paw, it means that while it was kind of not completely, but almost dark by 6:30 in the evening, now it will be dark at 3 PM.  Okay, not instantly, but soon.

But the time change (for those of us who do this twice a year) gives me the opportunity to run one of my all time favorite ‘toons again! Huzzah!

spring back, fall forward?

Now I must be off to start writing my Pandifesto, Letting Loose the Bears: The Panda Chronicle’s guide to Embracing Your Inner Panda.
