Fabulous Furry Friday celebrates the return of the NZ Panda cam!

Woo hoo! Okay, there a few other elements to the government shutdown that were really bad for the national and world economies, but shutting down the National Zoo panda cam was the final straw.  Princess Pinky must be able to address her people, people!

So, in celebration of full access to all pandas everywhere, we bring you several of our all time favorite panda ‘toons for your quick while the boss is out of the office Friday entertainment.

Well, that’s it for this week! Be sure to tune in next week when Princess Pinky returns and we continue with Mr. Wu’s adventure!  And remember, buying my books supports the Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire, which draws and publishes these cartoons for everyone’s enjoyment of this blog! (kinda like National Panda Radio, you know?)

Have a great weekend! Be the Bear.

Huzzah! Here we are again….

Despite the fact that the weather has been marvelous, a cool but sunny typical Northwest fall, The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire never rests, knowing how much you depend on your weekly doses of panda satire. In other words, there is no shutdown going on here!

Is that the twins I see before me? Don't tell Lun Lun

Is that the twins I see before me? Don’t tell Lun Lun

Meanwhile in Atlanta, next week is the naming ceremony for the panda twins born this July.  I’m guessing my suggestion of “Bert and Ernie” has not been given the full consideration it deserves.  Go figure.

Tune in on Wednesday, when Mr Wu resumes his new adventure!

In celebration of the release of Nobody Expects the Panda Kindergarten….

…we bring you a new cartoon about none other than the panda kindergarten! Huzzah!  We promise that Princess Pinky will be making occasional appearances on Mini Mei Monday, but she is still too young to have a whole day every week all to herself.  (“no! i isn’t!”)

Varooooooomba! Thanks to Lynnie Ness for alerting us to the "off label" use of the Roomba robot vacuum cleaner.

Varooooooomba! Thanks to Lynnie Ness for alerting us to the “off label” use of the Roomba robot vacuum cleaner.

And yes! we have released the third volume of the collected cartoons of the Panda Chronicles!  Huzzah! Book 3 is titled: Nobody Expects the Panda Kindergarten!  The wind may howl and rain may fall, but it won’t keep the panda kindergarten from their appointed rounds! This (and all the other books in the series) are available through Amazon and you can find them by following either the link in the right hand column, with the colorful cover, or by going to the page titled “The Panda Chronicles: The Book(s)” at the top of this page.  It’s not too early to get copies for holiday presents!

Meanwhile, Mr. Wu will return on Wednesday with the next episode of his adventure in the Wizard of Wu.  I can hardly wait to see what happens next!

Till then, Be the Bear!

Make Way, Make Way! A Panda Princess Approaches…

Oh, long have we waited for this day! Our Panda Princess, now just over three weeks old, born into the seat of Panda Power in Washington DC.  A recent statistic hit the FaceWaves today, 38 panda cubs were born around the world this year, with 34 of them surviving.  A major accomplishment in Panda Proliferation, indeed!

And now, for her debut appearance in these pages, we present…

And just how did the panda kindergarten get her address?

And just how did the panda kindergarten get her address?

Meanwhile, back at the drawing board, We await the arrival of another bundle of joy…yes, the proof copy for Book 3 of the Panda Chronicles may just be waiting for me at my post office box.  As soon as I make sure I didn’t make any boo-boos (or that the printer didn’t) I can push the old “publish” button and make The Panda Chronicles Book 3: Nobody Expects the Panda Kindergarten available to panda satire fans everywhere.

If you are a newsletter subscriber, you’ve already had a sneak peak at the cover. So if you aren’t a newsletter subscriber, you can see it here for the first time!

Nobody Expects the Panda Kindergarten!

and the back cover is just as cool!

didn't I tell you?

A Big Pandy thanks goes out again to Stevi Grega for contributing this tagline.

A small bit of housekeeping:

Due to changing the platform on which The Panda Chronicles appears, I seemed to have misplaced all my subscribers, from the previous incarnation.  I f you still wish to have pandas arrive in your inbox whenever I publish a new post, you will have to re-subscribe.  Thanks for understanding the limitations of  my being a bear of limited technology aptitude.  Newsletter subscriptions were unaffected by this change, in case you were wondering.

Don’t forget to tune into Mr. Wu Wednesday!

It’s Fabulous Furry Friday. Let’s Embrace Our Inner Pandas

Sigh…as a middle aged panda sometimes it’s hard for me to get in the entire 16 – 18 hours of sleep I require, (although not so hard to get in that 40-80 pounds of bamboo and cuppycakes that a panda needs. A bear must set priorities!) Occasionally there is something that intrudes into my head, and keeps me from sleeping soundly.

I don’t usually stray into commenting on political thingies.  Out here in the bamboo forest, I can usually sing lalala I can’t hear you, and go about my business, completely untroubled by any reality in the world beyond the edge of the forest.

Maybe Pandas DO have a better idea.....

Maybe Pandas DO have a better idea…..

But the bickering and obstructionizing that is going on in Congress is just too much for even a panda to ignore.  Is it possible that you all could act in the interest of the country, instead of maintaining your stance of if it’s YOUR idea, we don’t want to do it? Huh? Could we possibly agree that affordable healthcare for everyone is a good idea? Is it conceivable that putting the country back to work is something that would benefit everyone? Let’s embrace our inner pandas so that we can get on with stuff.  Pandas are standing by to take your calls.

Just how hard would it be...

Just how hard would it be…

...to embrace your inner panda?

…to embrace your inner panda?

Pandas are standing by…

See you next week for more adventures of Mr. Wu, the first appearance by our nation’s newest panda princess, and all things panda! Huzzah!

Be the Bear!

Is it really Monday already?

I think we can now put to rest that very unflattering portrait painted of Tian Tian (Huh? who me?) in the New Yorker last week.  Tests have shown that he’s the father of the newest, tiniest panda in the US.  Almost everyone is hip-hip-hoorah-ing about our precious panda princess!

Almost.

Who's the bear???!!!

Who’s the bear???!!!

Progress on Book 3 continues!  Stay tuned, panda fans!  And on Mr. Wu Wednesday, his new adventure really gets off the ground.  Really.

Till next time, Be The Bear!

Fabulous Furry Friday: Musings of the amusing sort….

Here we are, another week gone and where did it go?  A few other things are gone too, in my quest to make The Panda Chronicles better and more sustaining for the long run.  We pandas are in this to stay, never mind that whole endangered thingie.   As I mentioned before, and in my newsletter, if you had been a subscriber before, you will need to re-sign up because I found out too late that subscribers do not come along for the ride.  I just switched the order of the sign-up forms.  Now the one on top of the right hand column signs you up for the blog, and the second one, signs you up for my newsletter which I write about once a month.  Hope you will re-up, if you were already a blog subscriber.  (Newsletter subscribers were not affected by the switchover)

I’m sure you’d hate to miss great classics like these encore presentations that appear on Fabulous furry Fridays (and will be in our soon to be released book 3: Nobody Expects the Panda Kindergarten!

On my honor, I will try...to eat as many cookies as I possibly can....

On my honor, I will try…to eat as many cookies as I possibly can….

As I work on Book 3 of The Panda Chronicles, I get distracted by re-reading all the cartoons as I put them in the book template.  Makes for a longer task, but more fun too.  Here are a few of the ‘toons for the new book:

What will Christopher Robin say about this?

What will Christopher Robin say about this?

"what do you mean 'was'?"

“what do you mean by  ‘was’?”

Have a great weekend!

We’re Back! Did you miss us?

Hello Panda Fans!  It seems that several of you may have missed us over the weekend as we were doing some site renovations.  You will most likely see some twiddling and refining as time goes on, as I wanted to get the pandas up and running (we can so run!) even though everything is not cuppycake perfect as yet!

Much excitement has been happening in the land of pandas…the Atlanta twinkies are now 7 (or is it 8?) weeks old and getting cute enough to send Mr. Wu into a tailspin of anxiety over his cuteness ratings (more on that coming Wednesday.)  The newest panda in our nation’s capitol has survived a full week+ a few days and is getting fat and loud.  Huzzah!  I caught a glimpse of “starter ears” on the Facebook pictures this morning. Huzzah!

But all is not hunky-dorey…The New Yorker magazine ran an expose on the secret life of pandas, much to the embarrassment of guy pandas everywhere.  “Did he HAVE to tell that story?”,  more than one panda was heard to mutter around the pandasphere this morning.

Did he really have to tell them THAT????

Did he really have to tell them THAT????

Of Course Gao Gao, stud muffin of the SDZ had no complaints about the article!

Meanwhile, work on Book 3 of The Panda Chronicles is proceeding.  Stay tuned here to be the first to know when it is ready.  Speaking of staying tuned, as a result of a change in web hosting, it seems that all my subscribers disappeared in the transition (for the blog, not the newsletter) so if you would still like to receive new cartoons in your inbox 3 times a week, please re-subscribe via the form/button that says “Invite Pandas to Your Inbox” near the top of the righthand column.  You don’t want to miss a single episode, especially with Mr. Wu starting on a new adventure next week!

till next time!

Where No Cat Has Gone Before….A Journey to the Center of….Bob’s Brain

It is a really um…dangerous thing to suggest things to me sometimes, because you never know where they will lead.  Today the “responsibility” lies with panda videographer extraordinaire, Doxiemom Pandamonium, for carelessly stating, “Boy I’d like to be inside your brain for a day.”  Ask, and sometimes, you shall receive!

What's that stuff getting all over my paws? Oh...it's frosting!

What’s that stuff getting all over my paws? Oh…it’s frosting!

Remember, if a news story is the sort that would make it to Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me on NPR, it is probably something we can make fun of with pandas!  Feel free to leave news stories or suggestions in the comments.  I won’t use them all, but you never know how a chance remark will react in a brain filled with cream cheese frosting.  Huzzah!

And if you haven’t signed up for our monthly (more or less) newsletters, just click here or on the button near the top of the right hand column!  I’ve got plans for sharing all sorts of things that don’t make it on to the blog, as well as discounts on books that will only be shared with newsletter subscribers.  We won’t share your address (not even with the panda kindergarten!) and we won’t flood your inbox constantly.  Just once in a while.

Tune in Wednesday for the next episode of Mr. Wu’s newest adventure!

Till then, be the bear!

Bob T. Panda

PS: I’m pretty sure that you don’t get into a panda’s brain just by getting really, really tiny and crawling in through their ear.  Science was never my strong suit.
