I hope everyone had a happy fourth of July, ate lots of grilled items of your choice and did not expire from potato salad that was sitting out too long. Also that you did not…um…let the panda kindergarten take fireworks IN to the house and that everything is still standing in your neighborhood. As in Washington DC, as well as The Institute for Inner Panda Studies summer camp, the question remains: Who’s in charge here, anyway?

Oh, it is that time again! The first cubbies (twins!) have been born at a zoo in China and the Smithsonian just announced in their email that Mei Xiang has entered the Panda Season of Love! And now it is baby panda season!!!!

It’s worth a mention here, that my secret password only page about the China trip won’t go live until June 7th, when I launch my Kickstarter campaign. …but I play one in Congress. Well, I have been restraining myself (somewhat) on commenting on the political shenanigans coming out of Washington DC (heretofore known as “The OTHER Washington) but I’m afraid they’ve riled me yet again. Actually, I’m in a fairly constant state of rage and anxiety these days, as are many of my friends. Doctor Doctor can’t you give me something to ease my pain and suffering? Nope, sorry. Political anxiety is no longer covered by your insurance. You may want to print this list to see who you want to vote out in 2018.
So, with all that in mind, it seems like a great time to replay these ‘toons, in which Bob plays a soap opera doctor, on All My Pandas Time of General Suffering…or something like that.

…than the panda season of LOVE!!!!!? I know these are hard times: Bao Bao has gone to China, as have the Meihems; Bei Bei no longer gets to romp and roll with his mama. And you know who is in the White House. But wait! There is hope! Mei and Tian may yet do the Pandy Tango, and then we may get a bouncing baby panda or two. Wouldn’t that be fabulous in the extreme?

First of all, a big panda thank you to everyone who made a donation to the ACLU or Planned Parenthood so far. You have all of February to do so and get some very cool, not-available-in-any-store panda swag stuff. I’ll do my best to get stuff to you in a timely manner. See yesterday’s post for details! and per my campaign promise to provide a little lighter fare every Friday, so that everyone keeps laughing, (or fiddling while Rome burns?) here are some ‘toons from the past to keep the country’s humor deficit from reaching an apocalyptic level!

One of these years I need to do a groundhog day cartoon!
Visiting London is not all about frosting, you know. Even though there are many cuppycake emporiums in London and we are JUST SAYING that it would not be a terrible reason to go there, even if some people think walking for hours all over the city and looking at stuff is a worthwhile endeavor…oh! Heh! I do get carried away when I think about frosting…..but 31 days of pandas takes us to many other places, don’t cha know! Like…
There are like a gazillion art museums in and around London, and we went to a whole bunch of them. My favorite has always been The Tate Britain. I have been to The Tate Modern, but…well, it’s not my cup of tea. Give me the 19th century when it comes to painting.
Here’s Mini Bob with one of his favorite paintings, which visited Seattle about 17 years ago. It’s a study for John Singer Sargent’s infamous portrait of Madame X, the finished version resides in New York City at the Metropolitan Art Museum.
I remember this painting but with a different model…
Recently, another painting, purported to be by Sargent, was discovered. This one, while similar in pose and costume, was of an altogether different model.
