I’m afraid I have failed you. I do not have the next installment of Beary Poppins ready for you. They are in progress, but well…I just didn’t get it done. Sorry sorry sorry.
But I will have them done next week, and will try very hard to get a little ahead again…It’s just I have needed so many naps! And…I did do this:

On Monday, we left our story just as Mei Xiang and Tian left for a holiday party, instructing Pinky, who was babysitting the small pandas, NOT to open the door to anyone!

It was Six and Sebben’s birthday this week! Hard to believe they turned FOUR!!! As is traditional at The Panda Chronicles, I like to feature the birthday bears on a Sunday Funday dive into the archives. Is it my fault if Pinky took three weeks to celebrate her birthday? She *might* make an appearance here too!
I’m working on some new felties which I really swear I will get photographed and up on the Buy Stuff with Pandas page…really soon! I went for a last visit to my felty supplier, Abundant Earth Fiber. The coronavirus restrictions meant they had to be closed for more than 4 months. Although they do have a vibrant online store, as a new member of the fiber arts community, their store was like a trip to Wonderland. There were always someone there, either knitting or spinning or just hanging out and ready to talk about wool. They recently made the difficult decision to close their retail space.
The mill lives on and they’ve made arrangements with another local store to carry some of their best selling yarns and fibers, and also to serve as a pick up location for online orders for us locals. As part of their closing, they had a sale on everything in the shop, so I am well stocked up on fiber for now. They are currently offering free shipping on everything ordered online for US addresses, so if you are a knitter, (or felter!) and want to order some stunningly beautiful yarn, I hope you’ll check them out. I don’t get anything for promoting them (other than their continued existence). Their philosophy of small, high quality batch yarn and fibers really resonates with me.

Hold your horses, Pinky! It is still Mr. Wu’s birthday season. We’ll get to yours next week. Meanwhile, if you are still on Fezbook and can follow Patricia Rice’s panda birthday posts, I highly recommend them. Given that she is a real life historian, she writes excellent birthday posts for many of the known captive panda population, including most of our favorite bears.
Hope you enjoyed our trip down memory lane! (and for those of you who wondered how Wu met Bee, the Bear…)

It’s time for another day of Sunday Panda Fun, because what else do we have to live for? There will be new ‘toons coming down the web this week. Huzzah!
But what to share for our Sunday Funday ‘toons…Truth to tell, I can’t remember from one week to the next which ‘toons I shared last week (although it seems that maybe Pinky took over, last week..) As I have entered a new phase of felty panda making, it seems appropriate that this week’s Sunday ‘toons should celebrate that International Panda of Mystery…
Wanting to stretch my creative capabilities, I decided to make a felty Deluxe Babette, and feeling very pleased with the result, posted a picture of her on Twidder. A fan of felty pandas demanded that Babette come to live with her immediately. How could I say no?
Which leaves me in something of a quandary.
I plan on making more, as well as experimenting with some other of the as yet unrepresented pandas. I love the idea of making one of a kind pandas. It excites my muse, as it were. But how to let everyone who might want one see them… So here is what I am thinking. If people are interested, they can let me know via the contact form on the buy stuff with pandas page. I will make a list in the order people contact me.
This will not commit you to anything, other than receiving a photo of the next available panda, then saying “yes, I’d like that one”, at which time I’ll send an invoice and once it’s paid, I’ll ship within the week. Or you’ll say “no” and I’ll contact the next person on the list. I will also be posting them here, as well as on Twitter and Fezbook. (You can also contact me on Fezbook and Twidder, though I can’t guarantee I will see those messages before I see them here)
Here are the first two Babette, international Panda(s) of Mystery! Alas, these two are already spoken for!
As you might have gathered, Babette de Panda is quite a mentor of Pinky! Have a fun Sunday (or at least as fun as you can have during the days of Mitten’s reign of terror.) You can also have fun with cut out paper pandas, including Babette de Panda, on the Have Fun with Pandas page!

While the news makes it feel more like Sunday, Bloody Sunday instead of Sunday Funday, here at The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire, we are dedicated to bringing you fun with pandas!
A quick note: We are ready to start taking orders for more felty pandas! All the information can be found on the Buy Stuff With Pandas page, which you can find right here! You can also order the first group of Panda Chronicle themed Washi tape!

Fortunately no (known) cases exist on Whidbey Island but I’m doing all the sensible things: staying home as much as possible (kind of easy when you are self employed and work from home), stocking up on supplies (both food and felty pandas), and watching lots of panda videos!
I am working through each group of felty panda rewards from my Kickstarter project, and will have all of them out to their new homes probably within the next 8 weeks. This is actually far ahead of schedule, for which we can thank HWMNBN for creating such an atmosphere of dire foreboding that relief through felty panda making is essential.
There has been some interest from people who either missed the Kickstarter project, or now that they have received their new felty friends, they want the rest of the characters. Once I finish with the Kickstarter pandas, I will open up to new orders, so please hold that thought. I don’t want to take a chance on requests getting lost in the shuffle.

Before we dive in to our Year in Review encore presentation, can I just say OH MY FRIGGING GOD!!!! The tiny panda (Hold me closer tiny panda) Kickstarter reached its goal amount 13 minutes after launching. I am astounded with gratitude for this response. It also was listed as a Kickstarter Project We Love most of the day on Friday. Needless (or needle-less) to say, I have a lot of felting to do over the coming months. If you are afraid you missed your favorite panda, check back at the project, because I added some more reward categories!
Thank you again, from deep within my heart. I can’t wait to get these pandas to you! (After I make them of course!) This has the added benefit of getting to visit the Abundant Earth Fiber store again, which may now be called my happy place!
Well, that’s it for today’s wrap up! See ya real soon!
