Alas, Poor Twinkie…we will miss you……

cuppycakes, ode to a twinkie Cuppycakes are in the news once again!  This time, it’s not cuppycake confiscation, but the demise of an American institution…yes, those little packaged snack cakes that are alleged to have a shelf life of a million years, are on their way out!.  I suppose that it is no mystery why the maker of Twinkies and Wonderbread has filed for bankruptcy.  I can’t remember the last time I ate one.  But still….

Bob T. Panda

the earliest appearance of the panda kindergarten

While the panda kindergarten rallies for the next attack on Bob and Mehitabel, I thought that folks who had discovered the Panda Chronicles more recently would enjoy seeing the kindergarteners in earlier, more innocent times.  Of course this was a different group of panda kindergarteners and perhaps they were better behaved in general.  It’s so hard to tell with pandas.

“In the future, everyone will be a panda for 15 minutes”

Pandy Warhol, Created by Rob S.

We recently came across this work of art, from the 1970’s, the era of “Pop Art” most exemplified by the late Andy Warhol.  What is not widely known, is that Andy had a younger brother named “Pandy” who was also an artist, as well as a panda (you can see that Andy’s coloring came from the panda side of the family, although not the general build)

While Andy Warhol claimed that “In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes,”  his brother Pandy Warhol had a different philosphy.  His biographer, Rob S. uncovered this statement: “In the future, everyone will be a panda for 15 minutes.”

Seems like a no-brainer to us!

PS: For Rob’s contribution to the Panda Chronicles, he has earned a place on the Roll of Honor!  Congratulations Rob.  We knew we’d reel you in eventually.

And Now, The Panda Kindergarten’s Tribute to the Year of the Dragon

Well, I wasn’t going to post this until tomorrow, but since in China it is already the Year of the Dragon, I thought I should go ahead and let you in on the P.K.’s celebration.

I’d also like to once again thank all my friends, old and new, who have succumbed to pandaphilia!  It’s more fun with you than without you.

The Very Bob! Bob Paper Doll, That Is!

Another addition to your paper doll collection!  Coming soon! The Panda Kindergarten!  Huzzah!  Print, cut out and glue to carboard backing and you are ready to populate your house with pandas ( OK, yes, Mehitabel, and cats)  If you are new to The Panda Chronicles, Babette’s paper doll appears on December 2, 2011.  Bob is carrying his favorite food, a cuppycake.

Why Should Babette Have All The Fun?

Mehitabel, Cat

Everyone (well, several people at any rate) had so much fun with their Babette de Panda paper dolls, that I thought I should continue with the other characters from Your Brain on Pandas.  Lest we not forget that originally, this cartoon was  The Cat’s Pajamas and starred Mehitabel and the late, unlamented MeeMeej, before those *###$^&%!!! pandas took over.  So for the next paper doll for you to cut out and take with you in your travels, we proudly present: Mehitabel!  I should note that we are not currently running a contest for the best photos, but we always are eager to see what our creations are up to when they get off on their own with their new friends!  Babette had so much fun on her travels, making friends all over the world, and we had almost as much fun seeing her photos!   I should also note, that although Babette seems to be the only panda who dresses up regularly, you should feel free to make clothes for the other characters or even color them in.  (In real life, Mehitabel is a calico!  I’m just too lazy to color her in after all the cross-hatching I do to draw the dark parts on a panda.)

Cats Rule!

Mehitabel (taking over, temporarily,  from Bob T. Panda while he has a little chat with the panda kindergarten!)

There is no amount of procrastination that can’t wait until tomorrow…..

Recently TWO generous (and, may I say astute?) readers of The Panda Chronicles have bestowed the Versatile Blogger Award on me, and I have been MOST negligent in fulfilling all the requirements of the office.  I really have no excuse, other than that I have been busy drawing new panda cartoons, and the panda kindergarten hid my laptop.  I think they have been watching panda videos on YouTube and then used the power cord to tie Bob up in the basement.

According to the rules of the Versatile Blogger Award, I must:

  1.  Thank the award-giver and link back to them in your post.
  2.  Share 7 things about yourself.
  3.  Pass this award along to seven others.
  4.  Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know about the award.

Right now I have two different people to thank and do all the other stuff, so I am going to multitask and combine these two award.  What are you going to do? take it back?  First I need to thank hungry4momos at http://stowawaytrain.com/2011/12/28/the-versatile-blogger-award-merry-christmas-to-me/ because, well, she nominated me first.  And then, before I even finished all this WORK I now had to do, Then The Rubbe at http://therubbe.wordpress.com/2012/01/11/were-famous/ went and gave it to me AGAIN.

Ok, so…thanks.  Don’t do it again. (Just kidding…It’s kind of like being prom queen, except I don’t have to wear a dress.)  ( Now could someone give me “The Humorous Blogger Award?”)

My favorite part is coming up with 7 things that people might not know about me, so here goes:

1.  I like to watch movies where lots of things blow up, usually after a very destructive car chase.

2.  Mehitabel is a real, actual cat.  She REALLY doesn’t like pandas.

3.  The panda kindergarten is the expression of my deepest, inner self.

4.  I have actually seen “the Nixon Pandas”  (look it up).

5.  In addition to cuppycakes, I am particularly fond of those little pink and white frosted animal crackers.

6. I do “voice overs” when watching panda videos, where I do dramatic presentations of what I think the pandas are saying.

7.  I am not really a panda.

In the interest of further procrastination, I will nominate my versatile bloggees um…later.  OK?

Well, you read this far, you should get a cartoon, so here it is!

Well, it is an election year!

Be the Bear!
