Day 7: 31 Days of Pandas

Pandas were um…demanding a little closure of the Winnie the Pooh in Poland story, so what could we do, but comply?

I'm not sure Mehitabel has anything to talk about.

I’m not sure Mehitabel has anything to talk about.

Speaking of Mehitabel, she has been using my computer again when I wasn’t home, and trying to lead Cordelia’s Mom’s dog Cody astray. What am I going to do with this cat? You can read all about it here.

And since it is 31 Days of Pandas, I would be remiss if I didn’t post a little something with pandas here. Here’s another image from my book, Pandamorphosis:

Coincidentally, you can find this image on a beautiful panda print at The Fine Balance Imaging Gratitude Gallery.

It’s PanDaWriMo Eve!

I can’t believe it’s finally here!!!!!31 Days of Pandas! PanDaWriMo! Pandapalooza! Whatever you want to call it, it means a new panda cartoon or story installment every day! As things stand now, my plan is to do an installment of Inspector Panda’s story, The Case of the Picturesque Panda, every day, Monday through Friday, with something a little different on Saturday and Sunday.

Coming up this Saturday and Sunday, is our take on a news story that came to our attention this week, a scandal created when a popular bear from children’s literature is implicated in a bit of impropriety. Stay tuned, for The Truth about Pooh Bear: Why a Polish Playground thinks he is inappropriately dressed!

Meanwhile, here, to introduce 31 Days of Pandas, are some of your favorite inhabitants of The Panda Chronicles! Take it away, Mehitabel!

No, I don't think so. Bwahahaha!

No, I don’t think so. Bwahahaha!

We hope you will tune in for our daily pandas, and then …um…head over to our Panda Chronicles: The Books page, and order a copy (or 5) of all of our Panda Chronicles compilation books, not to mention Pandamorphosis! It’s the best way I can think of to support the work of The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire. And they make lovely gifts, as well! And it’s not to late to order Panda Satire Christmas cards from Pandas International! Help Bob help real pandas by supporting the work of Pandas International!

See you tomorrow!

Recap # 9: Our story so far

Oh we are getting close to the beginning of 31 days of Pandas and…um…I am hoping to have a spurt of energy in the next couple days…Hmmmm….we’ll see how I do.

Meanwhile, here is the next recap of our story so far.

Will Mr. Wu be safe with the panda kindergarten? And just what's with that tape, anyway?

Oh My Gosh a new cartoon!

Yes, we have been, um…running all “encore presentations” these last several weeks, but that’s because we are getting ready for 31 Days of Pandas, our annual exPandaGanza, with new pandas every day!!!! It really doesn’t get better than that, now, does it?

But pandas must be free, and Pinky let us know in no uncertain terms that she wanted a new cartoon about HER, and we better snap to, if we knew what was good for us.  So what could we do? Would YOU risk making Pinky mad, especially if she has her magical wand in her possession? I think not.

So, let’s get on with it!

Never say "no" to Pinky!

Never say “no” to Pinky!

Meanwhile, it is the season for giving thanks and giving help to those who need it, we give thanks to our favorite organization, Pandas International for all that they do for pandas. If you’d like to send holiday greetings with a panda satire flair, check out the Pandas International store where you can find these cards!

It's beginning to look a lot like pandas....

It’s beginning to look a lot like pandas….

And get ready for “Giving Tuesday” when we will be donating a dollar for every Panda Chronicles or Pandamorphosis book ordered from Amazon on Tuesday, December 2nd. what a great way to do your holiday shopping with pandas, and send a gift to actual pandas, besides! Remember, without pandas, there could be no panda satire!

Now pass the pumpkin pie and whipped cream! Huzzah!

Recap#8 & Fabulous Furry Friday

Huzzah! It is Fabulous Furry Friday as we continue with the next recap of The Case of the Picturesque Panda, in this run up to PanDaWriMo, otherwise known as 31 Days of Pandas!

Our Story so far….

Not the tape!!!!!!

Could that be the mysterious Babette de Panda? What does she want with Wu's tape?

Could that be the mysterious Babette de Panda? What does she want with Wu’s tape?

Oh no! Not Mr. Wu’s tape!!!! And now it’s FRIDAY and we won’t continue the story until MONDAY!!!!???!!! What ever will we do on the weekend? (And did you notice Mehitabel in her cameo role as Babette’s driver?)

Well, if you’ve been a clever bear, you will have a collection of all five of The Panda Chronicles books, and you will have pandas to spare to get you through the weekend. Word to the wise, and all that. In the meantime, we hope to have a brand new cartoon on Sunday. See you then!

It’s beginning to look a lot like…

We could save you all the trouble of going out to the Black Friday Sales, but then you might miss this experience:

pass the beans!

pass the beans!

We could be completely self serving and suggest you head over to our page of books and buy copies of The Panda Chronicles or Pandamorphosis for all your family and friends. We could do that, if we were a different sort of panda. Oh wait…we are that sort of panda.

Fabulous Furry Friday Presents…

More from the “Panda Beware” series of encore presentations!

We really need to more thoroughly check the panda kindergarten's reading list.

And Now for Something Completely Different

A couple weeks ago I attended an illustrator retreat/workshop, jointly put on by the Western Washington chapter of SCBWI (Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) and our compadres in the Portland Oregon group. Putting on an event like this is not a small feat, and the organizers did an excellent job.

We had two wonderful instructors form the world of children’s literature, Kelly Murphy and Sergio Ruzzier. I learned a bunch of great techniques, as well as some strategies for getting a story moving, which I am absolutely going to put into practice…um…really soon. The following drawing (no pandas!) was the result of one of our exercises that we completed in Sergio’s class.

I think I was trying to channel Bill Watterson's snowman cartoons in Calvin and Hobbes when I did this one.

I don’t want to leave you without any pandas, so…

Princess Pinky wanted you to see this:

We are sorry to tell you that Inspector Panda was unavoidably detained, just when things were really starting to heat up. He asked me to relay his apologies, but he also reminded me to tell you that he will be back in December for 31 Days of Pandas and that it going to be all about him, at least 5 days a week. So much stuff is about to happen in this story, that I thought it would be more fun to read an installment every day, than to have to wait a week between episodes, so just hold that thought.  I will do a recap in the week before 31 Days of Pandas starts on December 1st, ‘kay?

Meantime, by special request of one of my faithful readers (who I have actually met, while waiting for Princess Pinky to get out of her $#!!@*^% hemlock, on my last visit to Pinky-land) we see just why Pinky is up to up there.

Excuse me, Mr. Watterson, but....

Excuse me, Mr. Watterson, but….

I love a good art forgery, don't you?

Now we know what Pinky does in her hemlock clubhouse!

Oh dear, the Mei-hem twinkies have made Pinky mad. Uh oh.

Oh dear, the Mei-hem twinkies have made Pinky mad. Uh oh.

If I was really on top of this whole book promotion thing, I would point out that Book 5 of the Panda Chronicles has just been released, and it is all about Pinky, except when it is about the Meihems, and that you could look at these cartoons as much as you want if you would only hop over to Amazon and order the book.

Just saying.

It's Pink, but still kinda, um...dangerous!
