Huzzah! The Panda Kindergarten’s Adventures in Italy starts RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

Yes, I’ve got the pens refilled and fired up, ready to start on the chronicles of the panda kindergarten‘s trip to Italy.  I can tell you right now, that over 1000 years of civilization is no match for the panda kindergarten.  Rather than make you wait till the series is completely done, I will post the panels as I do them, which has it’s up and downsides.  (waiting versus cliffhangers, don’t cha know) So, hold on to your cannolis and get ready to follow the pandy kindy to sunny olde Italy!

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of the Italian Adventure, starring the panda kindergarten!

be the bear!!!!!

We’re back, and hope that all charges against the panda kindergarten will be dropped in due course…

warning It has come to my attention via a faithful reader, that there was a shooting  tragedy in a Seattle coffee shop in the past week or so.  She suggested that I pull this cartoon and at first I agreed, but then I had another thought (which is probably NOT a good thing, as I am sleep deprived and extremely jet lagged, having just returned from foreign lands.)

Throughout cartooning history, cartoonists have walked a very fine line between commenting through satire and just being in extremely bad taste.  It’s what we do to make sense of the world around us and sometimes the “funny” is overpowered by well, powerful sentiments. (As evidenced by death threats against cartoonists.)  This cartoon was originally drawn in protest of open gun carrying policies and through the absurdity of an over caffeinated cat with a gun, show that maybe, just maybe, carrying weapons in public is just a bad idea. So, I’m going to let this cartoon stand, with deepest apologies to anyone who has ever had to deal with the aftermath of violence.  Big pandy hug.

Just a quick note to let you all know that I and the panda kindergarten have returned from our “cultural enrichment excursion” to Italy and Holland.  All rumors of Interpol involvement and international crimes against property and good taste have been vastly exaggerated.  In any case, the panda kindergarten would like to apologize (yes they WOULD…NO BACK TALK) for any unintended “mishaps” that may have occurred as a result of “cultural misunderstandings.”

Until we have time to start drawing the saga of the pandas in Italy, here is a classic offering from the Panda Chronicles to keep you amused.

What could be more Italian than espresso?

I didn’t even know we HAD a “letters to the editor department!”

Dear Mr. Panda,

I am writing in protest of your recent cartoon. (Pandas mourn death of Maurice Sendak)  It is my feeling that you are exploiting the death of noted children’s book author and illustrator, Maurice Sendak, for the express purpose of allowing the panda kindergarten to run amok.

As a member of SCCWI (Society of Cartoon Cats of Whidbey Island) I must also take exception to the cavalier treatment of your feline characters.

Furthermore, I do NOT believe that “rumpus” is a verb.  This is a blatant example of the verbification of nouns, and will not be tolerated.  I am considering suspending my subscription to your publication.

Sincerely,

Mehitabel the cat.

Fix It All the Time…a Fiat Panda car by any other name…

Alert Panda Chronicles reader Andrew S. mentioned that he got a very swell new car… a Fiat Panda!  Huzzah!  Panda Cars! So the pandas here at The Panda Chronicles thought this was to be celebrated.

Note to Andrew:  Do NOT let the panda kindergarten have the keys to your car!

this one’s for you, Andrew!

Perhaps a THIRD chance is in order?

Look Out, Mehitabel, the Panda Kindergarten is at it Again….

As many of my faithful readers may remember, a few months ago, I came to you for assistance with my Kickstarter project (which was successfully funded, in no small part thanks to fans of the pandas.)   I just wanted to tell you about another Kickstarter project that is worthy of your attention.

My friends, Vicky and Tom Brown had a dream.  Well, it was mostly Vicky’s dream, but Tom, being the exceptional guy that he is, has gone way beyond the beyond in helping to make Vicky’s dream come true.  Fortunately for those of us lucky enough to live on Whidbey Island, Vicky’s dream to have a working goat farm and dairy has come to pass.  Full disclosure, I am not a disinterested party here.  I love the cheese that Vicky and her girls (the goats) make at the Little Brown Farm.  My favorites are her Caprine Creme and Caprizella and consume vast quantities whenever possible.

While I am usually making fun of many things here at The Panda Chronicles,  the panda kindergarten has thrown their support behind The Little Brown Farm in a serious way.  Check out their project here:

http://kck.st/GW4Yal

and then join the panda kindergarten in supporting Vicky and the girls.

Mehitabel is counting on it.

Note: No cats were actually harmed during the making of this cartoon, although they definitely were offended.

They have 23 more days to get all their funding, so there is no time to lose!

Be the Bear!

PS, this is my 300th post! Huzzah!

Happy Birthday to Mehitabel!!!!

And that’s no April foolin’.  In honor of her 16th birthday, we share a cartoon that has NO PANDAS in it.  Hey, I had to grant her wish, or who knows what she would have done!

Well, maybe this wasn’t such a cat tribute after all.  Hmmm….I knew I shouldn’t have let the panda kindergarten select the day’s cartoon…..Well, happy birthday anyway Mehitabel.  May you continue to be able to jump on the counters for many more years!

And here is a little April 1st humor from the Scottish Pandas:

The 2012 Preview!

Well, here at the Institute of Contemporary Panda Satire, we have big plans for 2012!  I thought it would be a good idea for the Panda Chronicles  to let you know what is in store for this year. Here is the first of the 2012 previews!

We’d also like to give a Roll of Honor shout out to Sue F. and Lucilla T. for alerting me to the Cuppycake ATM (with sprinkles!)  I sure wish that there was one around here! Huzzah!

Be the Bear!

And now, to be completely serious….no, really.

Note: No cats were actually harmed during the making of this cartoon, although they definitely were offended.

Yes it’s true, I am not a cartoon panda (sorry if I’ve surprised or disappointed anyone)  and I really do have a Kickstarter project that still has a long way to meet my funding goals in only 7 days.  I usually don’t cross pollinate my blogs, or the different parts of my creative life, but I’m making an exception here.  Please check out my project at the following link.  Even if you can’t help, maybe the extra traffic will encourage the folks at Kickstarter to give me a little extra exposure, so please visit and recommend to your friends and readers, if you see fit.  Here’s the link:

We now return to our regular scheduled silliness.  You are all the Bears for following the Panda Chronicles.  It’s thanks to you all that I am about to reach 20,000 visits!  (or maybe my brother visited 20,000 times?)

Why Should Babette Have All The Fun?

Mehitabel, Cat

Everyone (well, several people at any rate) had so much fun with their Babette de Panda paper dolls, that I thought I should continue with the other characters from Your Brain on Pandas.  Lest we not forget that originally, this cartoon was  The Cat’s Pajamas and starred Mehitabel and the late, unlamented MeeMeej, before those *###$^&%!!! pandas took over.  So for the next paper doll for you to cut out and take with you in your travels, we proudly present: Mehitabel!  I should note that we are not currently running a contest for the best photos, but we always are eager to see what our creations are up to when they get off on their own with their new friends!  Babette had so much fun on her travels, making friends all over the world, and we had almost as much fun seeing her photos!   I should also note, that although Babette seems to be the only panda who dresses up regularly, you should feel free to make clothes for the other characters or even color them in.  (In real life, Mehitabel is a calico!  I’m just too lazy to color her in after all the cross-hatching I do to draw the dark parts on a panda.)

Cats Rule!

Mehitabel (taking over, temporarily,  from Bob T. Panda while he has a little chat with the panda kindergarten!)

There is no amount of procrastination that can’t wait until tomorrow…..

Recently TWO generous (and, may I say astute?) readers of The Panda Chronicles have bestowed the Versatile Blogger Award on me, and I have been MOST negligent in fulfilling all the requirements of the office.  I really have no excuse, other than that I have been busy drawing new panda cartoons, and the panda kindergarten hid my laptop.  I think they have been watching panda videos on YouTube and then used the power cord to tie Bob up in the basement.

According to the rules of the Versatile Blogger Award, I must:

  1.  Thank the award-giver and link back to them in your post.
  2.  Share 7 things about yourself.
  3.  Pass this award along to seven others.
  4.  Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know about the award.

Right now I have two different people to thank and do all the other stuff, so I am going to multitask and combine these two award.  What are you going to do? take it back?  First I need to thank hungry4momos at http://stowawaytrain.com/2011/12/28/the-versatile-blogger-award-merry-christmas-to-me/ because, well, she nominated me first.  And then, before I even finished all this WORK I now had to do, Then The Rubbe at http://therubbe.wordpress.com/2012/01/11/were-famous/ went and gave it to me AGAIN.

Ok, so…thanks.  Don’t do it again. (Just kidding…It’s kind of like being prom queen, except I don’t have to wear a dress.)  ( Now could someone give me “The Humorous Blogger Award?”)

My favorite part is coming up with 7 things that people might not know about me, so here goes:

1.  I like to watch movies where lots of things blow up, usually after a very destructive car chase.

2.  Mehitabel is a real, actual cat.  She REALLY doesn’t like pandas.

3.  The panda kindergarten is the expression of my deepest, inner self.

4.  I have actually seen “the Nixon Pandas”  (look it up).

5.  In addition to cuppycakes, I am particularly fond of those little pink and white frosted animal crackers.

6. I do “voice overs” when watching panda videos, where I do dramatic presentations of what I think the pandas are saying.

7.  I am not really a panda.

In the interest of further procrastination, I will nominate my versatile bloggees um…later.  OK?

Well, you read this far, you should get a cartoon, so here it is!

Well, it is an election year!

Be the Bear!
