While the tune Scotland the Brave runs through my head, the Panda Kindergarten continues to get ready for Tian Tian and Yang Guang‘s arrival. Bagpipes Beware! What next? Well knock me down and put feathers up my nose, I couldn’t have been more surprised at the news coming from the Panda Ranch and Day Spa in Chengdu. Yup, Mei Lan, Atlanta’s Beauty turns out to be a boy! I suppose Lun Lun knew, but for some reason she didn’t say anything. Panda watchers are all scratching their heads in wonder and embarrassment, no doubt.
Here’s the first of 2 cartoons on the subject, so hot off the press our pen is still smoking!

Every once in a while, a story about pandas or a panda video makes us, here at the Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire, want to create a cartoon commemorating the moment. A few days ago we watched a video of a woman being overwhelmed by the panda kindergarten while having a “cuddle time with pandas”. Here is our interpretation of the event. I’m sure this has never actually happened. OK we’re pretty sure.

What is in a name? Would a panda by any other name be as cute? The Atlanta Zoo has chosen to name their newest little panda after a hollywood cartoon character. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen Kung Fu Panda at least 3 times, as we get a serious kick out of watching a CAT get his butt kicked by a PANDA, but as this is the second panda this year to be named “Po,” isn’t that enough? What will happen to this panda when he gets repatriated to the panda ranch in China? Do you know how much fun the other pandas are going to make of him? Did you ever think of THAT????? I mean, they could have named him something more dignified like, for instance, “Bob.”

There sometimes comes a real picture of pandas which a pandaholic such as myself CANNOT resist. This comes to us via Panda News and is of the Spanish panda twins born last August. We continue with political madness, panda style. We do feel that we need to comment on a video that has swept the “interwaves”.
It is a compilation of several commercials for Panda Brand cheese and milk products. We at Way Better Than Working and P.A.N.D,A. International would like to make it clear that we do not have any knowledge that Bob T. Panda starred in or even approved of this commercial. He did think it was pretty funny, though.
