Disaster Was Narrowly Averted…

But we will not forget that the GQP was ready, willing and able to shut down the government, throw the economy into a tail spin as 100s of 1000s of people were put out of work, imperil national security and the TWO worst things of all: Shut down the zoo during the last month of panda proximity AND disable the Fat Bear Contest!!!!

THE TOURNAMENT OF BEARS MUST BE SAVED!!!!

Let’s face facts. In a few months the only panda cams we’ll have access to are the ones from China. We will not have pandas we can visit unless we can go to China or Europe, neither of which is an option for most of us. So, we must have other bears!

As an international celebrity, you should not be surprised that Otis (aka bear #480) had some thoughts about the possibility of the Fat Bear Festival being canceled.

There does seem to be a tradition here of bears addressing the halls of government! (Pinky: I was da first! don’t forget dat!)

As some of you may know, I try to work a bit ahead on my ‘toons, so that power outages, snowpocalypses, and gallivanting around do not interfere with my schedule of posting ‘toons for your enjoyment. So, sometimes, they are a bit out of sync with what is going on out in the world.

But in this case, even though this series of ‘toons was about the ORIGINAL half-baked, harebrained, ill-advised shutdown, since we are on the eve of another potential shutdown, it is all too appropriate that I run this series now. Really, I hope the Congresspersons can keep HWMNBN from doing the foolish and destructive thing this time, but I have to say, I’m a tiny bit apprehensive. Fortunately, no one has figured out how to shut down the Panda Chronicles yet!

Let’s get these pandas on the road! There’s no time for a shutdown at The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire!

BTW, I’m happy to say that the responses to my Kickstarter survey are rolling in! I just started the ordering process for the pins, so hopefully, by the time they get here, I should have the labels all ready to go and you will get your Pinky Pins quickly! I’ve already started designing Bubba’s pin and hope to be ready to launch that project by the end of March!

Sigh….I try not to be too blatant in my personal opinions, but ya know, sometimes a bear just has to put his two-cents in the hat in the ring. Or something like that.

Two news stories today made me realize that the situation has just gone way beyond ludicrous. The unconscionable behavior by the Republicans in the House that refuse even to let a vote on the budget be taken is irresponsible in the extreme. And the news stories? Story #1 is about a Republican Congressman who berated a Park Service Ranger for “not doing her job” when it was the House’s unwillingness to act that closed the park in the first place.

Story #2 which I have not read any updates on, but it appears that this morning, there was a shooter/sniper shooting at Congress. Now, I detest violence, and I’m not a fan of guns, but if a peace loving panda is reduced to screaming at the radio when ever a Republican congressperson is telling lies about WHY the government has been shut down, imagine what would happen if an unstable person with access to firearms has his or her financial support cut off because of said inaction of Congress. I’m sure the irony of this situation is lost on those* who refused to enact reasonable gun control legislation. (* Republican/ tea party)

Like Pinky said: The Affordable Care Act is already a law. (and the Supreme Court said it’s OK) Get over it and let everyone get back to work. Alright? And quit trying to blame it all on the President.

Huzzah! Just because the government felt the need to go to their room and take a nap, doesn’t mean that we ever rest here at The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire!

Now, there have been a few allegations flying around cyberspace tonight, and I aim to put them to rest right here and now. There is absolutely no proof that Mr. Wu planned and implemented the government shutdown, for the sole purpose of shutting down the National Zoo Panda cams. Mr. Wu has called a press conference to clear up any misunderstandings….

Please refer any questions to Mr Wu’s legal team.
