I used to love All Pandas Eve …all of the little pandas, dressed in their costumes, heading out to trick or treat…maybe to a party…the air crisp and cold as the moon rises or the still visible tree tops and outlines of houses.

Actually, that’s not true. Going out trick or treating for Halloween made me vaguely anxious. I did like have a big bag of candy at the nights end. And that was in the days that you got full size candy bars, not those tiny “snack size” candy bars that you need to eat have a dozen to get a good mouth of chocolate.  Ahem.

So let’s forget about all that and join Pinky and the rest of the junior pandas as they ponder what kind of All Pandas Eve costume would scare the crap out of everyone…

News Flash!

Twin panda cubs were born at the Toronto Zoo in the wee hours of Tuesday morning! Mother and cubs appear to be doing well, and at least several “twin swaps” have been performed. Pandas from around the world have been sending their congratulations. The paternity has not been determined as yet, and Er Shun isn’t telling.  Another pandyland scandal in the works? We can only hope. Da Mao could not be reached for comment.

And now, on with our regularly scheduled cartoon!

Pinky is being Pinky in this next episode of A Halloween Carol (with apologies to Charles Dickens) as Mr. Wu introduces the first of the spirits who will show Pinky the error of her ways.

What Does a Panda Wear for Halloween?

I mean, do they dress up as a red panda? or maybe a tiger?  This is serious, people! Pandas need to know what might be the best costume so that people give them the most stuff.  Halloween is important to panda culture. who knew?

I do want to mention that I drew this cartoon before I read the Cub Confidential post from Zoo Atlanta suggested that the twins were going to dress up as the other twin.  Just saying. The Institute of Contemporary Panda Satire has their finger…er…paw on the pulse of the panda community.

And Pinky has asked me to mention that her book is out, and you could just flip really fast through all the cartoons about the Meihems, so that you could just read the ones about Pinky. Hey, I just do what Pinky tells me to. Word to the wise, and all, Pinky must be obeyed.

Panda Satire Made Easy

It’s not like it happens every day, but pretty often, someone wants to know where my ideas come from, or if I’m on medication and am I feeling particularly excitable right now.  Well, just to set your mind at rest, “they” tell me I’m not dangerous (at least not at the moment) and I do have a method to my madness in developing ideas for my cartoons.  So, I wrote this little cartoon to explain my thought process. (Or should I say “thought” process?)   Also, Mehitabel was getting downright testy over not being the star in most of the new cartoons.  Personally, she would just as well take the panda kindergarten to the pound and let some other poor soul adopt them.  Alas, poor Mehitabel.  This is just not to be.

Also, I’d like to welcome our new subscribers!  Having people enjoy these cartoons helps make life worth living.  (and to all my friends who have to at least pretend to say they are funny, thank you too.)
