It’s going to be a long, hot summer…

…and probably not in a good way.

I have to admit, the last couple days have been very hard. More than 100,000 people have died in the US from COVID19. Protests have turned into riots, which seem to be fueled by HWMNBN pouring gasoline on the flames, as well as the very real possibility that those white supremacist groups that showed up at state Capitols with not so much as a slap on the wrist, are showing up, to increase the violence and use the (mostly) peaceful protesters as cover.

HWMNBN’s Liar General is claiming that these are “radical left extremists.” I’m pretty sure this is a lie. Audible violence is mere blocks away from the homes of people I care about. I am safe (for the moment) in my forest hideaway and feel very fortunate that this is so.

There is not much I can do from here, besides send adorable, funny pandas out into the world.

Poor Mommee Mei…She generously invited the Meihems and Six and Sebben, the Cublanta twins, to come and stay with Bubba and Pinky, thinking that they would keep Pinky distracted and under control. Hahahahahahahaha! Me thinks Mommee Mei is having a bit of a memory problem.

Perhaps it’s time for all the twins to go home…

No Pandas Were Harmed…

There will certainly be more hijinks at The Panda House (don’t forget, Six and Sebben, and the Meihems are still visiting!) but for now, safety and sanity (???) return to Mommee Mei’s charges.

Of course with Pinky, peace and quiet never lasts for long!

What will happen next? I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

Sunday Funday Salutes…Our Pandas to the North

As if the global pandemic was not enough pain for those of us in North America, the Canadian pandas are going to be going back to China. Their bamboo, which is about 99% of their diet, comes from China, flown in every couple days (or is it once a week? I can’t remember and I am too lazy to look it up.) has been hard to come by, what with the flight reductions during the pandemic.  Most pandas have a preference for the bamboo they like to eat, and even if the US and Canada weren’t having their own problems, you can’t switch out Seattle boo for Chengdu boo, no matter how convenient that would be.

So, Er Shun and Da Mao are heading back to China, much to our dismay.

Meanwhile, HWMNBN continues to throw tantrums, tell lies about the scope of the pandemic and I’m guessing, will be tweeting up a s**tstorm after the inspiring speech that President Barak Obama gave at the Virtual Commencement on Saturday. It was nice to be reminded what someone with empathy and intelligence sounds like.

But it’s Sunday and that means it’s time for some pandamonium! Let’s look back at the ‘toons about the Canadian pandas and the place they held in the world of Panda Satire!

HWMNBN is not wasting any time getting his authoritarian game on. I sincerely hope we all do not die before this pandemic is over, and that the damage done by 45’s Reign of Terror can be repaired. Is it any wonder, Pinky has let her paws go tappity tapping through the shopping channel on Pandazon?

Editors note: I am reeling from the news that Calgary’s pandas are going back to China three years early (four, if Er Shun had another cub) I am so sad that I won’t get to see them again, and also sad for their panda care team, which I know really loves their bears. I think maybe on Sunday we will have a tribute to the Canadian pandas, what say you? I’m sure I’ll have something to say about it by then.

Too bad for Pinky that her little brother and his friend Ping Ping, and their cousins from Atlanta are getting a little more assertive! She can’t get away with nearly as much Pinky-like behavior without them striking back!

Felty Panda NooZ!

As of today, with the exception of one package that the person is not ready to receive yet (She probably wants to do some special shopping for Pinky!), ALL the felty pandas from the Kickstarter project have gone out! This is exciting because it means:

  1. I have made about 200 felty pandas thus far
    and
    2. I have already started of the recent new felty panda orders! (you know who you are!) I will email you as your pandas are ready to travel. Thanks to my newly mastered skill of printing flat rate priority mail labels from home, I can mail things without having to dawdle around the post office for long stretches of time! Huzzah!

Even though I saw the original Star Wars movie when it came out, it took me years to get this joke. What can I say? Sometimes I am not all that on top of things.

Meanwhile, COVID19 rages on as does the Malignant Orange Menace. Wearing masks is recommended and so the good folks at Redbubble added masks to their line up of products that artists can add their creative stamp to.  If you need a mask, I hope you’ll check out my offerings at Redbubble!

What Day is it, Anyway

You might think that someone who has worked in her home studio for over 30 years would be able to remember what day it is, but I am having a hard time with that. Yes, I work in my studio every day, but there are regular activities that I engage in, and as most of those aren’t happening, it gets kind of hard to figure out what day it is.

Fortunately, the Whidbey Island Organic Farm School has started up  production, even if their students are not able to be there yet. If you are on Whidbey Island, you’ll know we have a wealth of small organic farms growing wonderful food. Since the farmers markets won’t be opening any time soon, if at all, sales opportunities (i.e. how they actually make enough money to keep going) are extremely limited. If you can, check with your favorite farmer where ever you live, and see if you can get a CSA share. It will keep the farmers working, and you’ll get fresh vegetables that actually taste like something, other than vaguely green.

And now, let’s have some Pandas! One can only eat so much healthy food! Bring on the cuppycakes!

The Quarantine (and the fun!!!) Continues!

What did you learn in the quarantine of 2020?

I learned a new thing today! I learned how to print postage labels from my very own home computer! Who knew how easy it is? Okay, everyone but me, but I was dragged kicking and squealing toward computer usage. I used to drive one of my friends who tried to get me to get on the computers nuts with my reticence. I would open a file cabinet drawer and say, “I’m booting up my computer…now I’m opening a file,” as I pulled out a manila file folder and opened it.

Boy, was I funny! Don’t ask me how many computers and digital devices now live in my house. Really…who knows?

People are posting recipes on Twitter, real and ironic. Late night comedy talk show hosts are broadcasting from their living room couch or attic. Authors are holding book launches on Zoom.   The bereaved, denied the opportunity to say goodbye in person are spilling their stunned grief on social media. This is something we’ve not seen, most of us, in our life times.

We find hope even in our despair, we look for joy where we can find it, and so…
