We Regret to Inform You…

…that we missed Talk Like a Pirate Day and International Red Panda Day! Really! I go away for two weeks and everything goes to panda poo! (but more about that later!) As the Meihems say, regret is a given! But what better excuse to rerun Mr. Wu’s pirate adventure and a toon or too featuring our reactionary red pandas?

You won’t regret re-reading all these classic toons!

Yo ho ho and a bottle of BooBeer!

21) Rusty the scuppers, pirate crew…

An explorer’s work is never done.

The penguins save the day!

“You are right and Wu is wrong…I’ll never do it again, mommy.”

And let’s not forget the red pandas!

Oh those red pandas! They are such characters!

Tomorrow is Mr. Wu’s Birthday

It’s almost here! The very Wu Self’s actual birthday and the party is just about to begin! There are piles of cuppycakes on the tables and Bai Yun is looking serene and radiant…at least till cousin Pinky gets there!

By the way, the story of my journey into panda satire is now a public page, so you can read and get caught up on all the pandas you need to know! Originally, this was given as a talk to the 2016 Panda Convention at the San Diego Zoo, called From Panapiphany to Princess Pinky.

But now, let’s revisit some of my favorite Wu ‘toons in preparation for his birthday tomorrow!

Don’t you love “rear shots” of baby pandas?

Whatever could be in the box the panda kindergarten is delivering to Mr. Wu?

Will the panda kindergarten get it put together before Bai Yun gets home?

“Up in the Air, Junior Pandas…”

Nothing like a snappy graphic to um…solve a problem!

May Day! May Day!

Bet ya didn’t see this coming…or maybe you did.

I just had to include something with that provocative “rear panda view” you know!

If you enjoyed this Mr. Wu adventure story, there are more where that came from in The Panda Chronicles Book 4: The Book of Wu! You can find it here!

Princess Pinky and the Meihems (yes, and Bubba too) will return on sunday in their feature presentations, Being Endangered is SUCH a Curse!

It’s Mr Wu’s Birthday Week

Huzzah, Huzzah! We are taking a little time out from Pinky’s latest adventure story, in order to celebrate the birthday week of one of our favorite (one might say NO 1 Favorite!) young pandas. Xiao Liwu, nicknamed Mr. Wu by his keeper nannies, is the last of Bai Yun’s six cubs. He was born in 2012 and turns five years old and he is still here! (Don’t tell! Maybe they will forget he is still living in Pandiego and not in China!) I have read reports that he will be here until sometime in 2018, but one never knows!

Meanwhile, I thought I would celebrate his birthday week with a brand new Wu ‘toon!

Happy Birthday week Mr. Wu! I’m sure your mom won’t do anything to embarrass you on the internet!

birthday week

It’s so hard to be cool when you still live with your mom.

(and if you want to see the video that so embarrassed the Wu Self, see it here!) And as Mr. Wu said, “wif all dat measuring, you would fink da wu self would get a tux or somefing.”

And now, for the Wu Self Birthday Season!!!

Huzzah! It is time for the birthday season of our very own Wu Self, that paragon of pandas, that handsome hunk of hubba hubba, that fabulously furry fuzzbutt…

Ahem… It is hard not to get excited about Mr. Wu. He was the first actual panda that made a name for himself here at The Panda Chronicles and he captured the hearts of people all around the globe, especially after his record breaking well cubby check up video hit the airwaves.

So, without further ado, let us kick off the Wu’ Self’s birthday season with some classic Wu ‘toons!

“Howdy do! I’m Mr. Wu! Who are you?”

And I bet you are happy to see that Little Mr. Wu is safe and sound!

“Wu calls his dance, ‘Ode to a Weaf’ “

Yo ho ho and a bottle of BooBeer!

An explorer’s work is never done.

Mister Wu and his new friends.

“You are right and Wu is wrong…I’ll never do it again, mommy.”

Stay tuned for more from Mr. Wu next week, but don’t forget on Sunday we return with the next episode of “Being Endangered is Such a Curse” starring you know who!

Keep being the bear!

AS we are in the high volume part of panda birthday season, we are approaching the birthdays of two of our favorite pandas, Twinkies 1.0, the original, the first in the USofA, the Meihem Twins!!!! How could I ever forget watching their birth on my computer, and the the excitement when I realized we were getting two for the price of one!?!?! Now THAT is something to celebrate !

Of course, to celebrate, we will run TWO weeks of Fabulous Furry Fridays featuring the beloved Meihem twins, before we party like a panda in honor of the Wu Self!

Let’s celebrate and let the good times roll!

Fabulous Furry Friday …Again!

Oh the Fridays are fabulous around here, and not least because we are getting visitors from Australia! Huzzah! They are on the other side of the world, so when it is summer here, it’s winter there, although our Northwest summers may seem a little bit like winter to them! But this Friday evening, I will be meeting long time panda and panda satire fans in person (or is that in fur-son?) for the first time. And when panda fans get together, they party panda style!

Bring on the cuppycakes!!!!

So let’s celebrate pandas who party, for today’s Fabulous Furry Friday encore presentations!

There’s nothing on earth that I’d rather do….

Mehitabel gets even.

…and it all ends with Mr Wu’s Birthday party! Huzzah!

“Do you know who I am????” Yeah, we do.

It’s not a party till the pandas start a brawl!

Will there be cuppycakes?

There must be cake!

Is this any way to treat our Nation’s most adorable icon?

International Women’s Day

I really hadn’t planned to go on strike today, but some people involved with International Women’s Day thought it would  be a good thing if all women went on strike, so you could see what we actually do around here.

So I leave you with a very short post (which I am actually writing on Tuesday) which I hope you’ll read, if not on Wednesday, then on Thursday when I share this post around the inter webs.

Now, go pick up your own socks.*

My opening farewell

No, I’m not going anywhere, so you can stop hyperventilating right this minute. But the real life inspiration for Princess Pinky, that American icon of the Smithsonian institute, out there in the OTHER Washington, Bao Bao, daughter of Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, has to leave for China next week. So, devastated as we are, we must say farewell to that adorable ball of fluff that we love so well. All this month, Fabulous Furry Friday celebrates her royal self. So here’s today’s plethora of Pinkys!!!!

Pinky is a STAR!!!!!

You say you want a resolution, well, you know, it is hard to change a bear….

Could Mama Mei Xiang really be contemplating letting Pinky loose on the pandy kindy?

Sochi Winter Olympics, Pandas

I keep hearing the song “bears on the Run” going through my head…the ski run, that is!

Never say “No” to a Pinky!

Those girls are a force to be reckoned with.

Tune in again on Sunday for the rest of the Book 7 cover reveal!

The Year of the Rooster

Yes, Chinese New Year, otherwise known as the Lunar New Year, starts tomorrow (January 28th, 2017) and continues until February 15th! This is the year of the Rooster. That sounds harmless, right? How much trouble can the panda kindergarten get into dressed up like chickens?

It was interesting to read this article, because I was unaware of some of the traditions associated with this event. Like, you’re not supposed to do any cleaning the first three days of the New Year, because you could wash away good fortune. Well, I can live with that. Um…I hardly ever clean anything. Was that too much information?

Anyway, we’ll have a brand new ‘toon for you on Sunday, but for today’s encore presentation, I thought I would post some of my favorite Chinese new year ‘toons from years past.

Huzzah!

The year of the bunny…..

Oh that panda kindergarten!

Huzzah! It’s The year of Pandas on Horsies!

Look out!!!! Oh, those triplets!

Well, the FIRE part had Mehitabel a little worried, but…

And, of course, my personal favorite…

What if You Gave an Inauguration & Nobody Came?

Hoo boy! We are right here, at Apocalypse Inauguration Eve, and I gotta tell you, my tummy is doing flip flops. I don’t even know if I can get all these cuppycakes down that I have lined up on the counter in front of me. Despite a certain party’s claims to the contrary, you can find a ball gown in DC, and apparently hotel rooms are available too. On the one hand, you hate to rile up a person with so thin a skin and such a penchant for vindictiveness.

On the other hand, there is this:

Hey, save some cuppycakes for me!

Panda On, and let’s be safe out there!

And did anyone get my nod to the old Bob and Ray “Wally Ballou” routines, where they joined the roving reporter midway through his introduction? We need anything we can find to cheer ourselves up! Enjoy!
