Some Pandas Leave – Some Pandas Return

It’s one of those things that most lovers of all things panda have a bit of a hard time with: We don’t own our pandas, we only rent them. America has not owned their resident pandas since the Nixon Pandas came to live here in 1972. And not only that, any panda cubs born here still belong to China and these pandas return to China any time after they are two years old. Well, return is not really correct, since they were born here, but that’s how it’s thought of in the panda procurement department.

As much as we’d like to keep all of our American born pandas, it’s just not gonna happen, so save your petition writing for your Congressperson.

A panda can dream though…

pandas return

But some pandas go both ways!

Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks as I share my adventures with real, actual pandas!

And a Fabulous Furry Friday to Yoo Too!

Whew! It’s been a busy birthday season here at The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire! It is entirely possible that we’ve had about as many cuppycakes as we can stand (NO! There can NEVER be too many cuppycakes!) So, for this Fabulous Furry Friday we celebrate…

All things CUPPYCAKE!!!!!

Cuppycakes in art!

let there be cake!

31 days

Oh come on…hasn’t that ever happened to you? One minute there are two dozen cuppycakes just sitting there, and the next minute they’re gone?

another cartoon inspired by real news!

Thanks again to Henry Nicholls for alerting me to this story

I have extra frosting!

can’t I have just one more cuppycake?

Well, that was fun! And when I searched for ‘toons about “cake” I found so many that we might have to do this again next week! So until then, remember to:

Stand on your cake
Defend your cake against mommee
Try not to get frosting on your fur.

Panda on and tune in for the next episode of Being Endangered is SUCH a Curse! It’s getting really exciting, huh? Until then, here is a video of a bear playing the piano!

Let’s catch our breath for a minute…

Oh my! Was anyone else having heart palpitations after that last episode of Being Endangered is Such a Curse? I know I was! I think Pinky was really, really, REALLY mad! But maybe today’s Fabulous Furry Friday roundup of classic Panda Chronicles cartoons will calm her down a bit and give everyone a chance to catch our breath and mebbee have a cuppycake. Because we are entering Pinky (and Bubba’s) birthday season, so now we get to revisit some of Pinky’s (and Bubba’s) greatest hits. Huzzah! And there are so many to choose from!!!!

Let’s get on with the show! Break time is over!

Pinky tests her powers…. This will always be one of my favorites!

And of course, who could forget when Pinky got her magical wand?

National Zoo cub makes mom Mei Xiang disappear

oops.

Princess Pinky is fooled by Mei Xiang at the National Zoo

Oh Princess Pinky, mom has a trick or two up her paw, I think…

Mr Wu tries to take charge

Uh oh. All is not well in Pandyland!

Bao bao changes panda cub gender

Pinky is VERY powerful. Be afraid, be very afraid, Mr Wu.

Princess Pinky helps with new years resolutions

You say you want a resolution, well, you know, it is hard to change a bear….

deleted footage from press conference

Pinky answers difficult questions from the press in her own way.

Never say “No” to a Pinky!

It is really hard not to laugh at a misbehaving Pinky. I know, I know…I am a terrible influence on her! Okay, one more and then next week it is Bubba’s turn for the spotlight. (Pinky: well, Bubba needs me to help him!)

Oh dear….are you going to leave her there?

Don’t forget to tune in on Sunday for the next exciting episode of Being Endangered is SUCH a Curse!!! And next week’s Fabulous Furry Friday we will feature Bubba, okay?

And now, for the Wu Self Birthday Season!!!

Huzzah! It is time for the birthday season of our very own Wu Self, that paragon of pandas, that handsome hunk of hubba hubba, that fabulously furry fuzzbutt…

Ahem… It is hard not to get excited about Mr. Wu. He was the first actual panda that made a name for himself here at The Panda Chronicles and he captured the hearts of people all around the globe, especially after his record breaking well cubby check up video hit the airwaves.

So, without further ado, let us kick off the Wu’ Self’s birthday season with some classic Wu ‘toons!

“Howdy do! I’m Mr. Wu! Who are you?”

And I bet you are happy to see that Little Mr. Wu is safe and sound!

“Wu calls his dance, ‘Ode to a Weaf’ “

Yo ho ho and a bottle of BooBeer!

An explorer’s work is never done.

Mister Wu and his new friends.

“You are right and Wu is wrong…I’ll never do it again, mommy.”

Stay tuned for more from Mr. Wu next week, but don’t forget on Sunday we return with the next episode of “Being Endangered is Such a Curse” starring you know who!

Keep being the bear!

And so begins our Tale (or is that “Tail”?)

I can hardly focus my mind on pandas, what with various members of a certain family claiming innocence because something turned out to be nothing, when really what matters is that you thought it was something! And so begins our tale …

But first! Last week I had a visit from my previously unmet-in-real-life friends from the other side of the globe. Despite several flight cancellations just in order to get here, they finally arrived and what a wonderful time we had! Let’s just say that cuppycakes and PIE were involved!

Did someone say cuppycakes?

While normally, I try to promote blogs that I find interesting or are written by people I know, I must tell you that you should definitely NOT read this post about making two lonely little cuppycakes and you most definitely should NOT make this little bite size batch of peanut butter frosting and if you DID make this petit batch of peanut butter frosting, you should definitely not add a little bit of dark cocoa powder OR eat the whole thing with a spoon.

Ahem…or whip up a batch with no intention of putting it on a cuppycake…

but now, so begins our tale ….

so begins our tale

We call our liddle tale, “Being Endangered is Such a Curse!”

Yes, it’s another YBOP Fractured Fable! Huzzah. And like many fairy tales, there are wicked…um…witches, and fair maidens, not to mention a gallant prince who saves the day. And of course, everyone is a panda, more or less.

Panda on everyone!

The Panda Kindergarten Presents…

Yes, we are getting close to another one of our fractured literary classics, where we make a shambles of re-write for pandas, a beloved tale of our childhood! Huzzah! But first, the panda kindergarten has a song for Pinky and the Meihems!

Be quiet, Pinky! The panda kindergarten is about to sing!

How about that!

Who’s in charge here, anyway?

I hope everyone had a happy fourth of July, ate lots of grilled items of your choice and did not expire from potato salad that was sitting out too long. Also that you did not…um…let the panda kindergarten take fireworks IN to the house and that everything is still standing in your neighborhood. As in Washington DC, as well as The Institute for Inner Panda Studies summer camp, the question remains: Who’s in charge here, anyway?

Could it be?….

who's in charge here, anyway?

C’est Moi?

Oh, yes, it will be a very long summer, I think.

Summer Camp Surprises

What kind of surprises will be in store for our intrepid panda pals, as the arrive at the summer camp for The Institute of Inner Panda Studies? They might be surprised to learn that they already have a fan club! I’m sure the panda kindergarten has internet access, so of course they would already know all about Pinky and the Meihems, wouldn’t they?

Let’s join Pinky and the Meihems as this year’s panda kindergarten welcomes them to summer camp !

summer camp

Pinky: after all, i AM a icon!!!!

Who, indeed is in charge around here? Stay tuned to this station on your radio dial, panda satire fans!

Fabulous Furry Friday …Again!

Oh the Fridays are fabulous around here, and not least because we are getting visitors from Australia! Huzzah! They are on the other side of the world, so when it is summer here, it’s winter there, although our Northwest summers may seem a little bit like winter to them! But this Friday evening, I will be meeting long time panda and panda satire fans in person (or is that in fur-son?) for the first time. And when panda fans get together, they party panda style!

Bring on the cuppycakes!!!!

So let’s celebrate pandas who party, for today’s Fabulous Furry Friday encore presentations!

There’s nothing on earth that I’d rather do….

Mehitabel gets even.

…and it all ends with Mr Wu’s Birthday party! Huzzah!

“Do you know who I am????” Yeah, we do.

It’s not a party till the pandas start a brawl!

girl power

Will there be cuppycakes?

There must be cake!

Is this any way to treat our Nation’s most adorable icon?

We’re Back in the Pink

Well, we’re back in the PINKY pink that is! What a whirlwind couple of weeks it’s been here at panda satire central! A successful Kickstarter campaign, preparations for a painting show, and very (very) soon, visitors from the other side of the globe, panda fans extraordinaire, Paul and Vicky!

But meanwhile, Pinky is going off an an adventure that should help keep her in the pink!

We’re back to our old shenanigans, I think!

If you want to refresh your memories, here are the previous episodes for Pinky’s summer adventure with the Mehems:
Episode 1
Episode 2
Episode 3
Episode4

we're back

Pinky is going on an adventure!

I don’t want to post any spoilers here, but let’s just say that Pinky’s new adventure is going to lead into another fractured fairy tale for young pandas! Get your popcorn and stay tuned!

Panda On,
Bob T Panda

Apologies for the delay in posting today’s ‘toon. I know people like to get their panda satire first thing in the morning, but you know, it’s morning somewhere!
