31 Days of Pandas: Day 5

Oh the suspense is building! The Case of The Picturesque Panda is rocketing to it’s dramatic conclusion sometime this month! (We don’t know exactly when, because, quite frankly, we really don”t know entirely where this story is going.)  But one thing you can be sure of, there will be pandas, cuppycakes, and at least several cases of bears behaving badly!

As we near the end of our first week of 31 Days of Pandas, we are happy to report that we are not yet behind in our panda-ing to the masses! We hope that if you are enjoying these comics, that you will share them with your friends, whether you tweet them, post on Facebook, or print them out and *chase people down in the grocery store and don’t let them leave until they read them all and tell you how funny they are, or until their ice cream starts to melt.

(* I’m kidding about this, don’t get arrested, ‘kay?)

Hmmm...it seems that Babette de Panda has enlisted some hence-pandas. They look just a liddle bit familiar...

Hmmm…it seems that Babette de Panda has enlisted some hench-pandas. They look just a liddle bit familiar…

And while this is the season to…um…buy stuff, consider that prints from our book, Pandamorphosis would make a lovely gift (for others, as well as for yourself).  16 different images are now available in several sizes from The Gratitude Gallery of Fine Balance Imaging.  They have all of my available images on their website on my very own page. (And they are very nice people!)

What would YOU wish for?

Inspector Panda will be gathering his thoughts over the weekend, but will return on Monday with the next installment!  Stay tuned tomorrow for the scandalous expose` of one of kiddie lit’s most beloved characters!

Recap #12 We are Thankful…

…that this is the next to the last recap of our story so far, The Case of the Picturesque Panda. But a little gratitude about a few other things is in order, so here goes:

I am thankful for my friends who have encouraged and supported me all these years, in all of my many creative pursuits, even when they thought I was being a little nutty (pandas). I am thankful that there are still pandas on the earth, and while I wish there was more undisturbed habitat for pandas to live wild and free, I am glad there are safe places for pandas to live among the people who love them, with all of their needs taken care of. I am thankful that so many people have found my cartoons and stories amusing or entertaining or life affirming and even that these bits of panda silliness help them survive the hard and sad events that are a part of everyone’s life.

I am grateful that I met my dear friend Jude Bulman, and that I was one of her many friends who loved her and depended on her to help them with all sorts of stuff. The world is a grayer place without you and I need pandas more than ever. Wherever you are, I hope there are pandas there too, and that they are making you laugh.

Personally, I’m planning on eating my weight in Dinner Rolls today.

And now, on with our story:

Oh My Gosh a new cartoon!

Yes, we have been, um…running all “encore presentations” these last several weeks, but that’s because we are getting ready for 31 Days of Pandas, our annual exPandaGanza, with new pandas every day!!!! It really doesn’t get better than that, now, does it?

But pandas must be free, and Pinky let us know in no uncertain terms that she wanted a new cartoon about HER, and we better snap to, if we knew what was good for us.  So what could we do? Would YOU risk making Pinky mad, especially if she has her magical wand in her possession? I think not.

So, let’s get on with it!

Never say "no" to Pinky!

Never say “no” to Pinky!

Meanwhile, it is the season for giving thanks and giving help to those who need it, we give thanks to our favorite organization, Pandas International for all that they do for pandas. If you’d like to send holiday greetings with a panda satire flair, check out the Pandas International store where you can find these cards!

It's beginning to look a lot like pandas....

It’s beginning to look a lot like pandas….

And get ready for “Giving Tuesday” when we will be donating a dollar for every Panda Chronicles or Pandamorphosis book ordered from Amazon on Tuesday, December 2nd. what a great way to do your holiday shopping with pandas, and send a gift to actual pandas, besides! Remember, without pandas, there could be no panda satire!

Now pass the pumpkin pie and whipped cream! Huzzah!

Recap #5 The Case of the Picturesque Panda

Oh that Babette! She thinks she has Inspector Panda wrapped around her dainty little paw. Mr. Wu remains skeptical, while Inspector Panda…well, let’s just say Inspector Panda has his work cut out for him.

Our story continues:

"fuggedabout the bleeping tape!"

Oh that Babette!

Stay tuned! There are mysteries to be solved, and cookies to eat. Cuppycakes must factor into this somehow, don’t you think?

Recap #4 The Inspector Panda Saga Continues!

Oh yes, here we are at last. This changing time zones is for the birds. Or the bears.  Okay, maybe not bears.

Be sure to check out last weeks’ posts if you are still catching up!

I don't know about you, but I think this document is VERY suspicious!

Day 2 of Inspector Panda Recap

Oh boy, PanDaWriMo (the event formerly known as 31 days of Pandas) is about to begin on December 1st!

Huzzah!

I can now reveal that Bob and Babette’s top-secret mission to meet with another set of international pandas has reached it’s successful conclusion. The dynamic duo paid a visit to Hao Hao and Xing Hui of the Pairi Daiza Zoo in Belgium’s beautiful countryside. You can even follow them on Twitter @XingHuiHaoHao How cool is that? The top secret meeting went well, other than the fact that Babette got a little huffy because she is French, and well, that’s just what Babette does, nes’t pas?

And now, on to the next re-cap of The Case of the Picturesque Panda (see yesterday’s post for the re-cap beginning!) (pretend you are listening to noir detective music intro now)

...and so the story begins...

We could save you all the trouble of going out to the Black Friday Sales, but then you might miss this experience:

pass the beans!

pass the beans!

We could be completely self serving and suggest you head over to our page of books and buy copies of The Panda Chronicles or Pandamorphosis for all your family and friends. We could do that, if we were a different sort of panda. Oh wait…we are that sort of panda.

Pandas, yes, but not Bob, maybe…

Here’s one more project that I did at the illustrator retreat. This time, Sergio gave us five lines of a story, and we had to do a short, five panel story using his text, and our ideas for characters. Here it is, in all it’s ink smudged glory, and hey! There’s a panda!

Bob and the magic slipper....

Bob and the magic slipper….

Sergio didn’t like my ending and questioned how i knew the slipper was magic. I thought the little “magic lines” in panel three were obvious, as well as the unpredictable nature of what can happen when you put on magic slippers. It’s not always a prince charming kind of deal.  Oh well, you can’t please everyone. :o)
