Another Fabulous Furry Friday

Ah, what to post, what to post…that is the question.  Time to get out the darts and throw it at my computer screen and see where it sticks.

Can you calibrate the cuppycake?

I am such a dork.

I am such a dork.

I know… I will take this opportunity to share these cartoons I did for Pandas International, for their programs at several of their annual auction events.  If you don’t already know about Pandas International,  you might want to check them out and send a little support their way.  They raise money to help actual pandas (as opposed to imaginary ones) and… without actual pandas, there could be no panda satire.

Think about that!

Keep being the Bear!

Huzzah for Pandas International!

Because Mr. Wu got soooooo much screen time in December, he has graciously allowed us to pre-empt his weekly forum today.   (XLW: what dat mean grasshusly? is dat ’bout bamboo?)

We are big fans of Pandas International for many reasons.  First, they do stuff for pandas (and as we have said before, without pandas, there could be no panda satire!) But also, for some strange reason, they think we’re pretty funny! So of course we can’t help but jump up and down and say, “They like me! They really like me!”

They have asked us to share some of our cartoons with them, for Christmas cards and for their annual auction program. When given the challenge of coming up with a cartoon for a fairly straight/serious subject, it is fun to see where my mind takes me.  Last year’s funding focus was for enrichment items to keep the pandas entertained.  Of course I had to have my own point of view:

I am such a dork.

I am such a dork.

This year, they would like to help fund laboratory equipment and so I came up with this idea for a cartoon for their program.

Can you calibrate the cuppycake?

But this was not quite enough help to lend to pandas, and so I thought I’d have a special promotion.  To help support the work that Pandas International does, I have decided (because, you know, I’m the decider around here) that for each and every Panda Chronicles book sold through either Amazon or my Createspace stores during the month of February 2014, I will donate $1 to Pandas International.  Really!

The panda Chronicles supports Pandas International

It’s just like the panda says! Buy my book and real pandas benefit!

So, if you were thinking about adding to your collection of Panda Chronicles books, February would be a great time to do it.  There are now 3 books in the series, starting with The Panda Chronicles Book 1: Your Brain on Pandas, moving on to The Panda Chronicles Book 2: Wheel…of….Pandas! and my most recent release, The Panda Chronicles Book 3: Nobody Expects the Panda Kindergarten!  and soon, very soon, maybe even before the end of February (no pressure, of course) The Panda Chronicles Book 4: The Book of Wu, which contains all the cartoons to date starring Mr. Wu!  It will start with his early days in the den and continue with all five of his extended play adventure stories! Huzzah!

I know I always say this, but this really is my best book yet.

So…support pandas, buy my books and be there bear!

A Friday special and a few words from Pandas International

As some of you might know, we occasionally lend a paw to our friends at Pandas International to help them with their work for real (as opposed to cartoon) pandas.  They are getting ready for their annual Black and White Auction, which takes place on Saturday February 23rd, 2013.  Last year our cartoon “when pandas have potlucks” graced the program insert, and this year, they requested that I do something on the theme of “enrichment items” for pandas, or what we call, “Toys for Pandas

I just should not be allowed out into polite society.

I am such a dork.

I am such a dork.

Here’s the info on the auction, just in case you are in the neighborhood, or  want to bid from a distance:

Pandas International Hosts Its 13th Annual Chinese New Year’s Dinner

Pandas International will host its 13th Annual Chinese New Year’s Dinner and silent auction to benefit the Giant Pandas in China.  The dinner will be held in Denver, Colorado on Saturday, February 23, 2013. This year’s dinner will focus on purchasing enrichment items for all of the captive Giant Pandas at the Bifengxia Panda Reserve in Sichuan, China. Enrichment items consist of jungle gyms; tire swings, and various other toys to keep the Giant Pandas of all ages active and healthy throughout their entire captive lifespan.  Pandas International relies on the donations from small businesses in order to make each year’s dinner a success.  They are extremely thankful for the help of Anne Belov and her whimsical Panda cartoons and for her help in designing their dinner programs for the second year in a row. For more information on attending or donation please e-mail Pandas International at info@pandasinternational.org.

Be the (generous) bear

While mini-Bob swans around London….

Here at the Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire, we always get very excited when we have more than 100 visitors in a day.  Does this mean that we are shallow bears and that we really need to get a life?  Probably so, probably so.  While Mini-Bob is away, I’ve been catching up on some classic bear stories.  My all time favorite of favorites from when I was a little cubbie is, of course, Winnie the Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner.  I still find these books amazingly profound.  No, really, I do.  Not, only that, but Ernest H Shepard’s illustrations have a lot of influence on my cartoon drawing style.  Just thought you should know.  In Case You Were Wondering.  (that was a Pooh-ism, in case you were wondering about that.)

Meanwhile in Pandyland, a new panda kindergarten escapade is in the works, for all you fans of panda kindergarten, and a new hand drawn, hand printed lithograph is going on the on-line auction block at Pandas International this week.  The auction ends on April 29th so check it out!  Here is the print being auctioned:
