If you are not aware already, the nation’s (well this nation anyway) newest panda ceased to be after only 6 days on the planet. We send inner pandy thoughts to Mei Xiang, Tian Tian and all the staff at the National Zoo in Washington DC. They should know that the nation’s panda faithful mourn with them.
We know that these things happen…nature knows what it is doing, but it doesn’t make us any less sad. We will go back to being funny tomorrow.
Till then,
Be the bear.

We are quite excited to learn that a new panda cub was born to Madame Bai Yun, the queen of panda moms, at the San Diego Zoo yesterday afternoon. (no midnight vigils for Bai! )
Now if only Mei Xiang and Ya Ya could share in the blessed events….

Later this week…the exciting conclusion to the torch bear’s saga!
Editor’s Note: But enough about that! I’ve been working on some drawings for a (panda) book project, so I haven’t been keeping up with Bob and the Panda Kindergarten. Fortunately, I just got these pictures from Panda-Palooza 2012 which took place at the San Diego Zoo last weekend. Panda-Palooza is, of course, the celebration of all things panda, and several of our Facebook fans worked long and hard to make this event happen. Since I myself could not attend, I sent Bob and Babette (and the panda kindergarten to go in my place. Here are some pictures of them at the convention.
Are we having fun yet?
New cartoons soon… I promise!
News on the street is that perhaps the “festivities” (we are a family friendly cartoon feature…um… mostly) that took place at the San Diego Zoo earlier this week may have some adorable dividends. Bai Yun is not telling, although Gao Gao has a bit of a smirk, and keepers reported hearing him mumbling, “Whose da bear? I’m bad, I’m bad, I still got it…” under his breath as he did handstands and relaxed in his hot-tub. We won’t know for sure until much later this year, as pandas are notoriously tight-lipped on this subject, as well as unpredictable.
While we wait for our resident chronicler of pandas (will you get on it, and get off the darn computer and DRAW for cryin’ out loud?) to finish the latest cartoon, here is an old favorite on the subject of panda parenthood.
Till we know more,

In honor of the announcement of impending pandamonium in Canada (our neighbor to the North), I thought I would pay a little homage to one of my favorite Canadian musicians.
And Babette is no sooner back from her trip to China (from which I have just seen some pictures) than she must get ready to go to PandaPalooza! at the San Diego Zoo this weekend. It is so hard being an international spokespanda!
Coming soon, more panda product endorsements, tails from Scotland, and product warning labels: There is no holding back!

It is spring time and pandas are in the mood for loooooove. From San Diego Z00 (where they let the panda cam show some RATHER personal stuff, if you ask me, to Edinburgh, Scotland, where the happy (panda) couple have been hired to promote….deodorant. No, I am not making this up. The Royal Zoo in Edinburgh Scotland has played let’s make a deal with manufacturers of deodorant, to have the Scottish Pandas appear in their advertising. I can’t make stuff up this good, no way. Since I am not able to receive TV commercials from Scotland, it was, however, left to my imagination to bring you the commercial. (OK, I DID make this up.)
Stay tuned this week for more panda product placement!

Oh, the pandas are busy this spring! Here are some more of the exciting stories we will be covering soon! I would also like to jump about and clap my paws with glee ( which produces a kind of muffled, fuzzy sound) because there have been over 21,000 views of the Panda Chronicles! Huzzah!
We can’t tell you how sorry we are not to be at Pandapalooza at the San Diego Zoo this year, but we will be there in spirit, and start making plans for next year. (maybe with a book???) We did send along a few goodies for prizes at the conference. I hope YOU are a lucky winner!

Why should zebras have all the fun? Babette thought she needed a new outfit (avec un belle chapeau!) for all her jet setting… southern California one day, Singapore the next, then it’s off to the French Alps to get in a little time on the slopes with with a mystery panda! So what could be more appropriate for a quick trip to the south of France (or maybe Disneyland?) than a glorious black and white striped asymmetrical ruffled blouse with a pleated skirt? I don’t know about you, but I’m thinking, Ingrid Bergman; Casablanca….And her hat? Oh that hat! Inspired by a little something her cousin Bai Yun of San Diego just “picked up” around the den.
And what about the news that pandas are moving to France? Sacre` Bleu! Cousins of Babette, no doubt. Will Sweetie rake Sunshine over the coals for applying for the post in unfashionable Edinburgh, (haggis? ugh! when we could have had French pastries??) when Paris was on offer? Stay tuned!
Be the (fashionable) Bear!
