We are definitely winding this fractured fairy tale down! And if you notice a resemblance in some of our players to characters that exited the story earlier, let’s just say that we have a limited number of pandas to play all the parts, so we make due where we can!

Meanwhile out in the real world, shit is getting cray cray! Will there be consequences for Mittens and VD Vandal (soon to be played here by a weasel!) for the bad things that they are getting up to in Ohio? Sounds like some of the citizens of Springfield have filed a criminal complaint against them for telling lies to incite violence.

ZooNooZ may have an exclusive interview with a central character in the drama, coming on Thursday. Mum’s the word!

Tuesday Tales is back with Pandarella Episode 7!

There is so much going on right now that I decided I will have the ongoing saga of Pandarella new episodes on Tuesdays, so I can devote the other ‘toon of the week to all the various goings on in the world. I think we have secured an interview with the new not yet arrived residents of Pandiego for this Thursday, and we are working on getting interviews with the North Cascade Zebra, Frank and Mikey’s interviews with the new grizzly bears coming to the North Cascades, and an irate duck who thought that the Woodland Park Zoo was supposed to be a safe haven for ALL animals, not just bears!

So now, let’s get back to our story!

Those evil stepsisters seem somewhat familiar!

A New Story Begins Today!

Let’s see if I I do a better job of figuring out what this story is supposed to be!

It is a sad truth, among we who figure out stories by the seat of our pants, that sometimes what seems like a good idea at the beginning, sometimes collapses in a heap of “well who cares what happens next?” This happened in the last story I attempted. You never know, so you head off with great anticipation, only to lose all your excitement a few episodes in.

Hopefully, this will not be the case here.

Truth is, there are already so many interpretations of various fairy tales, that there are almost infinite parody possibilities, as opposed to a story that was already perfect as it is, with The Phantom Toll Booth. Other than my idea of casting Six and Sebben as the Princesses of Rhyme and Reason (I know, right???) and having Bikkie, Pookie and Frank drive off in a little car, I really didn’t know where to take it.

So here, I offer yet another take, on the tale of Cinderella!

I hope you will enjoy this ongoing distraction from the Nooz, Pandarella!

Josie has graciously agreed to be our omniscient narrator! (Josie: I did not!) And yes, there are some excellent parts for Six and Sebben, and PPJ!

Surrender your pandas!

Sadly, we are destined to be a country without pandas in the next year or two. San Diego’s pandas were sent to China in 2019, and the pandemic, not to mention TFG’s crappy stances on China meant we weren’t going to get a new panda loan agreement any time soon. Noted panda writer Henry Nicholls wrote an opinion piece for CNN about our addiction to domesticated pandas. That might not be quite how he put it, but he does have a point.

Pandas in the wild are different animals, and now it appears there may be some genetic difference between pandas that live in the wild and pandas that grew up on the all you can eat cruise ship model. “Pandas are solitary? Who knew?!!!!” said a group of pandas sitting around the table chowing down on boo shoots while playing Mah Jong.

Any way, now Ya Ya is on her way back to Beijing, alas without Le Le who succumbed to a previously undiagnosed heart ailment.

Could story lines collide soon? I guess we’ll find out.

If you haven’t read Henry Nicholls’ The Way of the Panda, you should fix that immediately. It’s a great book about all things pandas, the politics of pandas, and there is a cameo appearance of a ‘toon that was perhaps done by your favorite practitioner of panda satire! My literary claim to fame!

Honey, Can we Remodel?

Several people wondered where Pookie was going to stay if he moved into the Panda House, so I thought a little floor plan was in order.

My understanding was that they did a major renovation when Frank and Mikey moved in, and built the second floor over part of the main panda hose. Prior to that, what is now Mei’s Office/study, part of it was Pinky’s room and part was Bubba and Ping’s room, and Tian’s Bear cave was the baby’s room. Pinky appreciates having a much bigger room, of course!

Adding the second floor “kid’s suite” allowed them to give the kids a separate space with a dedicated computer room and their own little bear’s room.

Keep in mind I am not an architect if things don’t line up exactly.

Seems like they have plenty of space as long as no one else show’s up to stay. (Pinky doesn’t share)

One More 50th Pandaversary Post!

The Month of Pandas is coming to an end…

Who am I trying to kid? It will ALWAYS be the month of Pandas!!!

And who better to celebrate this 50th pandaversary at the national Zoo than the ENTIRE panda family in residence!?
