Book 6 Cover Reveal!

It has been a longer time than usual between new editions of The Panda Chronicles collections, since Book 5: Pandapocalypse Now!!! came out about this time last year. I published the first book, Your Brain on Pandas, in the fall of 2012, and had enough cartoons in reserve to put out a book about every six months. Eventually I used up my reserve cartoons, and now I write/draw enough new ‘toons so that I can put out one book a year, in addition to other projects I am working on. More about that later!

But now, the moment that you have all been waiting for, (unless of course you supported one of my earlier Kickstarter campaigns and have received an update!) The title and cover reveal of the latest book, without further folderol:

The Panda Chronicles Book 6: We R Endangered

And obviously, with the way pandas drive and that they stand up in an open car with no seat belts, it’s no wonder that they are endangered!

Fans of Pinky will be delighted to know that she has managed to ~~hog~~ commandeer around 75% of the stories in this book. Her rise to fame and presidential campaign thus far are included in this book, so get ready for Pinky, Pinky, Pinky.

Thank you for being the bears and coming along on this panda palooza! I wouldn’t be here without you all! The book will be available sometime in October. I am now awaiting my proof so that I can be responsible and make sure all the pages are turned in the right direction! Huzzah! And don’t forget, lots of stuff with pandas on it is available at the Pandyland store on Cafe Press, including lots of Pinky for President goodies! I hope to get some Hey, Why not vote for Bob? things up later this month. Pinky can’t have all the attention, can she?

Update: Once again, the MacArthur Foundation Genius Grants committee overlooked the field of Panda Satire. Sigh… Maybe next year.

Did you see? Pinky’s little brother made an appearance. Will he be a good panda, or will he succumb to the siren song of Pinky Power and a cabinet post? Hmmm…which would be more fun?

More Loyalty Oafs

As I sit here, trying to type with big furry paws, it has come to my attention that that some of the human candidates are having a debate tonight. I am not looking forward to debating Princess Pinky. I think she will fight dirty. and then there is the matter of the “leftover Christmas decoration” in the back of my closet. I am sure I did not decorate there last year. Pretty sure, anyway. Could this have something to do with why she knows everything I have been planning?

Meanwhile, I think I am beginning to see why the Two Timing Political Consulting Agency has not finished my video.

Hmmph!

Pinky: I will build a really, really big wall around your zoos if you don’t sign my oaf.

Meanwhile, I am making progress on compiling Book 6 (!!!!!!!) of the Panda Chronicles! Stay tuned to find out the title and see the cover! I hope to have it available no later than the end of October!

Talk Like a Pirate Day Returns!

Yes, It’s back! Actually tomorrow has TWO festive celebrations! Not only is it International Talk Like a Pirate Day, it is also Red Panda Day! Huzzah!

Omniscient Editor’s Note: It was bound to happen sooner or later…Princess Pinky would demand to know where Wu and the Meihems stand. Of course, this puts the Meihems in a very difficult position, vis a vis Bob and their political consulting firm. They are supposed to be working on Bob’s campaign video, not signing loyalty oaths for Pinky.

And they say politics makes strange bedfellows. very strange, indeed!

Meanwhile back at the panda ranch, Pinky’s real life brother turned three weeks old on Saturday, and is doing well. I think Pinky has plans for him….

BTW, did you know it is National Cup(py)cake Week this week? I’m ready to celabrate! Huzzah! I happy to report that my favorite London Cuppycake establishment got a mention as one of the 10 best cuppycakes in London.

Don’t Look in the Back Seat!

um…you know when you watch those scary movies, and there is a malevolent force in the back seat, as the hero/heroine drive blithely and unconcernedly around the dark country side. And the camera cuts to a shot of the evil one starting to rise up in the back seat, and you jump up and yell at the screen:

Don’t turn around!!!!!!! Don’t look in the backseat!

Well, think of that as you start to read this cartoon.

Meanwhile back on the National Zoo panda front, Xiao Mei Tian (not his official name, just a crib name, as he won’t get either his real name or his panda satire name till he is a hundred days old) has survived his fist week. He is starting to develop his panda markings and is getting nice and round. Huzzah!

I think we can deduce from this cartoon that Pinky is not quite ready to give up her presidential aspirations.

I will have to think of something to distract her….

Fabulous Furry Friday!

It’s Friday! and it is Fabulous and Furry!

I had mixed feelings about making any kind of commentary about the ~~death~~ murder of Cecil the lion. I have friends and acquaintances who hunt for food, but killing a living creature just to put his head on the wall seems so very wrong in so many ways. I couldn’t find anything to make a lighthearted cartoon about, because, as John Stewart accurately said after the murder of 9 people in a South Carolina church recently. “There’s just nothing funny about this.” But the pandas all gathered around me, and reminded me of this important concept, and so I did a drawing in tribute to the endangered among us, on two feet as well as four.

And now, on with our regularly scheduled pandas….News from the panda front in San Diego is a little sad, but not totally unexpected. Bai Yun is 24 years old and they decided to give her one more chance to have another cub, as hormonally she was…um…ready. The SDZ folks announced today that Bai Yun is not Pregnant.

I’m sure in some ways, both she and Mr Wu are relieved. The Wu self gets to remain her baby boy forever, and given his attitude about cute cub proliferation, he is probably especially relieved.

F.F.F. Salutes The Wee Wu Self!

*Fabulous Furry Friday salutes the Wee Wu Self! (*Thank you and a cuppycake to Stevi G. for coining that descriptive phrase about the wu self! It’s perfect.)

Since recently we saluted the Meihems on the occasion on their second birthday, This week we will salute Mr. Wu, who is no longer two, or at least Mr. Wu, no longer “wee” is now turning three. Really, the poetry police should be here any minute. Should I give you full credit for this rhyme, Stevi?

I will try to find some Wu-toons that have not been rebroadcast lately, but you know I love the Wu self so much, I show his cartoons whenever I can.

Here are a selection from each of Wu’s adventures, which (beware, advertisement coming) can be found in his very own book, The Panda Chronicles Book 4: The Book of Wu. You know you want it!

Mr Wu’s first adventure with the rascally panda kindergarten, saw him sail the high seas in his little donut floaty. Which is pretty funny, because Mr Wu would avoid baths at all costs.

And then there was the time Mr. Wu built an airplane (with the help of the panda kindergarten…

Will the panda kindergarten get it put together before Bai Yun gets home?

But once safely on the ground (not to mention grounded for life) Mr Wu’s resolve to not get mixed up with the pandy kindy did not last long…

Mr Wu Goes Rogue

Really, it is getting extremely…um…naughty pandish around here. Princess Pinky is on a rampage, getting on 60 Minutes, being interviewed by Oprah…where will it all end????

And now, Mr Wu, who has always been such a good little panda, at least in comparison to Princess Pinky, is giving unauthorized news reports on ZooNooz. Okay, so Mr. Wu went on a whole bunch of adventures with the panda kindergarten, and all, but now that he’s gotten a good job as Inspector Panda’s assistant, we thought that he would walk the straight and narrow.

Even the real life Mr. Wu has been a bit of a bad boy lately. Taking a page from his brother Yun Zi the destroyer, no doubt!

An election recap from Mr. Wu…

Perhaps Mr. Wu has been hanging out with Pinky just a little too much.
