The Panda Season of….Love! Yes, it’s that time of year again, when a young pandas thoughts turn to cuppycakes…oh wait…that’s the other 363 days a year! Now it’s time for that exciting lead up to the 24-48 hours a year, when girl pandas can actually get pregnant! But did you know that pandas are prone to pseudopregnancies, where you don’t even know for sure that they are with cub, until one drops out onto the floor one night? Boy does THAT make for a tense atmosphere around the den for oh, 4 to 8 months after the …um…well, you know. And let’s face it…it’s hard to see a four ounce weight gain on a panda.

If time Is limited, and females picky perhaps the offer of two males is the way to go!!! ZZ decided that 2 are better than one and is going to give Bai and Gao a sweet baby girl or two—–and this is her first try. I think two males per female bear is a wise thing rather than just AI, or natural mating followed by AI. ZZ is young but the family has shown great reproductive skills. Love grammmie
I love that the San Diego panda Dynasty will continue with ZZ. Do you think that Mr. Wu will be Bai’s last cubby? and that ZZ…quite the femme fatale! She will give Babette a run for her money.
